Management is not supportive, and has poor communication skills when dealing with nurses and other managers working in the same unit. Nurses are told patient care is a priority, however, paper charting in such a large, busy hospital is extremely time consuming and takes away from patient care. Although Mother Baby nurses are in charge and responsible for the care of couplets, all infant charts, charting, pediatric visits, orders and communication take place in the nursery which is a separate area located away from the Mother Baby nurse. I feel the ability to be involved in this process has a negative effect on patient care. Many of the preceptors are unmotivated, and uninterested in the learners achievements. Managers are aware but turn a blind eye.

The benefits and the pay are all that Northside has to offer. If you go to HR with an issue, they break your trust. It is all about who you know if you want to advance. Many leadership positions are given to people with no experience what so ever! HR never handles complaints against a superior, they simply sweep it under the rug and tell you to suck it up. The atmosphere is not friendly but rather very tense and sometimes hostile!
