Pros

Good internship program. Benefits are good. Good reputation in Atlanta area. Depending on what floor you are on, willingness to help each other.

Cons

Usually short staffed. No float pool to cover shortages. Equipment shortages. PCTs do not have phones on some floors, so spend a good amount of time looking for them to get information you need about the pt's VS before you can pass meds. Nurses often do not have phones.

Pros

The people I work with are genuine, respectful, and want you to succeed. Flexible schedules. Independence. Generally, there are opportunities to advance within your department. This hospital system is growing at a rapid pace.

Cons

Some managers may "gatekeep" information or attempt you from developing, growing within your profession, and taking the next step to advance your career. Unfortunately, it can affect your emotions and your ability to continue working there. As long as you have your goal in mind on what and how you want to succeed, DO NOT let anyone stop you during your journey. Also, HR tends to be tight with increasing pay and generally pays the new staff more than current staff. For instance, a new nurse recently graduated is making $37/hr while some educators are making $40-50/hr. And, those you train are making the same or more than you. They want to be competitive but tend to forget how to truly retain staff, such as pay, scheduling, patient ratios, documentation system, leadership assistance and support on the units, among others.
