Pros

Amazing co workers. Good benefits

Cons

My experience at Medallia was truly traumatic. I had a new, progressively less qualified, leader every 90 days. As a member of the professional services team your primary responsibility is to log billable hours. You are expected to submit a timesheet each week where in 15 min increments you demonstrate your value to the company. Actually delivering value to the client is unimportant. So Toxic. There are mental health days, unlimited pto and employee resource groups but good luck enjoying any of these benefits. Taking time off or using working hours for non billable work will get you on the naughty list and your leader and others you don't even know will be grilling you about your every move. "Why was your forecast off by 10hours?". The target on your back gets exponentially larger as we come to the end of a quarter. We are scraping together change from in between the couch cushions there and it's very clear as of late. I voluntarily left this role WITH NO NEW ROLE to go to. Just waving the white flag after months of voicing concerns and advocating for change with zero response.

Pros

- Truly the market leader in customer experience products and services - Good benefits: GoPass (aka free Caltrain rides), healthcare, vision, dental - Compensation: better than the market rate for my line of work - Caring managers: this depends on which, of course. I was lucky to have an empathetic, yet strong-willed boss who vouched for her reports - Solid client relationships and robust exposure to verticals, industries, etc. - Medallia does walk the walk: feedback is taken seriously, however, it depends on who you talk to for action to happen - Recent investment in the People and Culture team: smart women with PhD's who are working to better our work environment. This includes better new hire trainings, strategic focus on wellness, etc.

Cons

- Awkward handling of firings and/or layoffs: this seemed to happen to employees who suddenly left HR or Client Solutions - Embarrassing handling of job referrals: many folks don't submit job referrals anymore because they've been so embarrassed with how their friends or acquaintances have been treated. Rejections are not done gracefully by HR - they usually leave a bad taste in the mouths of those in our network. - Passive aggressiveness: people are nice to people's faces but talk behind their backs - Arrogant attitudes: just because you went to Stanford or an Ivy League college does not mean you're smarter than everyone else - Smarmy, know-it-all salespeople: there are a handful of wonderful salespeople. But there are many newer ones who don't know the product very well - Nepotism: tons of nepotism, however, the issue is specifically around friends who are hired into senior management positions.

Pros

Competitive compensation and benefits Mature workforce CEO Work life balance Remote organization pre-pandemic

Cons

Overall: Medallia has become a portfolio of startups which has lead to an identity crisis and has created friction across the organization. Here are the other areas that stand out: Product: Platform is composed of many startups and their technologies, meaning the platform does not seamlessly integrate with itself nor is built/hosted on one singular infrastructure making it difficult to serve clients, operate internally, and retro fit the messaging with the state of the business today. Training: Training is outdated, too high level, and ineffective given the rate of acquisition. This has resulted in longer client cycles, implementations, and cross functional conversations. Psychological Safety: Major lack of diversity in the revenue organization. Efforts are being made since the BLM movement but Medallia is still in it’s infancy when it comes to creating a diverse and inclusive culture, so there is much to learn, much to develop, and many mistakes to be made. If our nation’s history is any indication, the effects of not hiring a diverse set of leaders and employees over the past 20 years will have its impact well into the next few decades. Culture: There is a silence culture and a boys club. It’s a sink or swim type of organization operating on tribal knowledge.
