Pros

- Employee discount - Free products - A lot of lovely team however many great people have been leaving due to cons listed below

Cons

- Toxic attitudes / cult mentality - Hour cuts / No accomodation for preferences in schedule unavailability unless you are studying but even then you are made to feel bad for taking study leave - Will happily let go 3-5 year employees if they can't do the absurd hours they demand or aren't willing - Poor accomodation for mental health / disability, - Out of touch upper management - Out of touch with cost of living / the wages they paying, encourage us to try / sell products that no one on our wage alone or many customers could possibly afford - Used to get a lot more training and products to try so we could recommend - Extremely high and unrealistic targets so bonus is basically non-existent - Disorganised, floor managers seem confused all the time, you never know who to ask when your unsure of something, always referred on to the next person and left waiting - Used to get a lot more free products so we could actually try them, now if we do they are all used products and we have no choice in them. Not complaining about free products but there is an expectation that we have tried products so we can recommend them yet it feels like they expect us to buy them ourselves - Massive cuts to training and education - Any trainings seem to drastically play favourites with certain teams e.g. make up artists getting paid for lunch and trips with free product where other members have a 5 hour talk in a warehouse

Pros

- alot of good coworkers, you can make lifelong friends here - good discount - social and fun working on the floor - lots of good policies in place that protect workers - gratis/incentive initiatives (store-based)

Cons

I worked at three different locations, and had different experiences from them all. A strong favouritism culture, but that is just inevitable in retail. Internal drama/bullying is really common, I think that just comes with the industry and I do think MECCA attempts to do alot to prevent it. I had a really awful manager at a store, which everyone had been ridiculed by and consistently complained about, but she went on to get promoted and win the biggest award internally - which everyone was shocked about. I think their biggest con is the "feedback" and the way it sometimes feels as though managers are nitpicking on small things, but they are incredibly underpaid and overworked on a daily basis. I would really like to see MECCA implement new systems and policies like giving managers work phones etc. (because they definitely can afford to) so managers can have a better work/life balance, and will be kinder/less stressed instore which benefits the entire team.
