Pros

Competitive salary and generous pension.

Cons

During my time at Mastercard spanning 18 difficult months, I faced the most challenging phase in my lengthy career. I was part of a support team led by a manager known for bullying. The team had already witnessed two departures due to this manager's conduct. Working in such an environment took a toll on my mental well-being, plunging me into depression. Despite seeking support, I was cautioned by colleagues against reporting to HR, as they believed it wouldn't yield any help. This situation contradicted the image portrayed by Mastercard, a company that consistently emphasized its values and principles of decency. Encouraged by slogans like "acceptance matters" in the managers' email signatures and numerous messages promoting speaking up, I naively believed in their integrity. Armed with evidence and witnesses, I gathered the courage to report the bullying and discrimination to senior management and HR. Regrettably, the response I received shattered my spirit. Despite reaching out during a mental health crisis, I was left unsupported for six weeks with no check-ins. An inadequate investigation by HR, devoid of contact with essential witnesses, led me to escalate the issue further. This resulted in a new investigation, prolonging the agonizing wait for resolution. Ultimately, I was informed that the investigation concluded, but the results remained confidential, leaving me in an unresolved limbo. For the sake of my mental health, I had no choice but to resign. It became evident that HR's primary concern was my seeking a monetary settlement. However, this was far from my intentions, as evidenced by my departure without making any such requests. I'm still in touch with former colleagues who continue to endure bullying in the team. It's disheartening to witness their suffering, compounded by Mastercard's clear message through their treatment of me – anyone who speaks up faces dire consequences, thus perpetuating a culture of silence.

Pros

Mastercard has high quality people and a good strategic technology vision. Full disclosure, giving low rating based on recent change is work from office policy. Otherwise would have been a very high rating.

Cons

Mastercard recently changed their work remote policy to being in the office 3 days a week. This is unfortunate as a lot of the resources that work here do not live close to the office due to the exorbitant cost of living near the New York City metropolitan area. Some of the best resources I work with have a commute of 1.5 to 2 hours. They’ve chosen to live in areas that are better suited for raising a family and more affordable to do so. Mastercard has some very high quality resources but they don’t pay near the top of the salary range for technology companies. While I think Mastercard is a great place to work for a lot of reasons it’s simply just not feasible that the vast majority can live within a reasonable commuting time of 30 minutes. I think it will only be a matter of time until some of these high quality resources find employment opportunities that offer a more flexible work arrangement. Speaking first hand the current policy seems to be working very well and I can attest that productivity is higher here than any other company I have worked at. I fear changing their policy will ultimately affect morale in a very negative way eventually leading to employee turnover. I don’t think 1.5 to 2 hour commute, 3 days a week is sustainable long term. I believe this decision will be an inflection point which will affect the company negatively. I anticipate the additional commuting time will affect the quality of the work being done as people will now have to concern themselves on how to absorb losing 3-4 hours of time a day or more (9-12 hours week). This decision is unfortunate and I think management should consider delaying this or possible reconsider something more flexible like 3 days once a month, two entire weeks a quarter, average of x amount of days per month. This decision feels like a rigid step backwards

Pros

Can't think of anything positive.

Cons

Not sure why they have an HR business partner. Our HR BP was completely useless. If you want to move to a different department/group within the company there is no clearly defined process. When asked for assistance, the only thing the HR BP could do was point me to online courses. If you apply for jobs on the company portal you wont get any response and you have to beg to get a feedback from the HR. They are planning to introduce an AI programme which will help employees advance their careers .Hopefully AI can replace the useless HR department.
