Pros

Avoid this employer. They will drag you through the ringer

Cons

Finance & Accounting teams are consistently under-resourced and overworked, especially compared to Sales & Marketing, which receives more staffing and training support. • Lack of respect for the complexity and workload of the F&A department — expectations are high, but the compensation, systems, and staffing don’t match. • Despite raising concerns, inefficiencies persist across systems, and critical processes (like accruals, contract tracking, and reconciliations) are overly manual and inconsistent. • Leaders often return from leave or transition roles without full handoffs, but still hold others accountable for inherited issues. • Culture of performance management over genuine development — frequent focus on tracking missteps rather than coaching or solutions. • Poor PTO management — policies are rigid and inconsistently enforced; approvals can be reversed or ignored. • Turnover in leadership is high; my location alone has gone through six Directors of Finance in the past decade, with no structural changes to address it. • Communication and collaboration tools are fragmented (SharePoint, V drive, Ironclad, etc.), and employees are often left guessing on expectations. • Some managers are allowed to treat staff poorly without consequence, creating psychological safety issues for their teams. • Recognition feels forced (as a goal), rather than authentic or supportive of morale.

Bare Minimum from an Employer

Pros

Some really great coworkers Decent benefits as far as health and PTO. Learning opportunities as you are expected to perform work that is well defined within another role. Folks in HR are truly wonderful. Leaders receive promotions

Cons

Company continues to lay off employees as they are outsourcing many positions. Many who are not having their position eliminated are resigning or taking early retirements. Earnings reports come out touting record profits and resort occupancy rates after companywide announcement that they decided to give us our standard 3% raise. Worded as if it was being considered to once again withhold annual increases as was done so a couple of years ago. You work your tail off=3% raise. You slack and do the bare minimum, and make lots of mistakes =3% raise. No employee recognition or rewards programs of any kind. Company does the absolute bare minimum to reward and retain current employees. Employee morale is the worst I have ever witnessed in my career at any company. Does the company have no idea, or do they simply not care? Many of the leadership roles are held by long time employees who have stale, unrealistic values and goals for todays modern workplace. Departments being led by folks with no background in said business area. No matter how much you do and how well you do it, it's never enough. Be prepared to be hired to do a specific job only to have the scope completely and drastically changed without any change to your title or pay. First day on the job welcomed me with a filthy work space complete with previous occupants belongings such as cough drops and sticky pennies in the desk drawers. Dead bugs and dust on the desk top. Enjoy your nasty, used, hand me down office supplies for your new work space too. This company may be writing a book on how to suck the soul and morale out of your employees.
