Pros

The mission of Kumon and to help franchisees with this mission is very rewarding. The basics of this job and when franchisees also believe in this mission and are passionate about the core tenets of Kumon can be fun.

Cons

Sometimes they use Japanese expats (with no management experience and have never worked with US franchisees) as branch managers to the detriment of the branch office. Less opportunities to travel, network with colleagues and to learn at the annual conference as they are cutting back on expenses. Unrealistic goals and expectations as the franchisor does very little to hold rogue franchisees accountable. Little to no advancement if you are working in the field.

Pros

Low cost medical benefits 401k matching

Cons

Constant reorganizations/restructuring No room for growth (especially if you're female) The only people being promoted are those who were sent here from overseas or who are rumored to have had relationships with their managers. Inconsistent messaging about policies - is working from home permitted? Many departments have employees who do this regularly, but if you ask HR, they say no even though there's nothing written in our handbook about it. Years back, the company claimed that "People are Everything," yet we're treated like children and told at a conference for all North American staff that we should stop complaining about legitimate grievances.

Pros

interesting group of people easy to get to average pay

Cons

if your supervisor does not know what you do, prepare to be questioned about it over and over again. I was bought on to help with a project that my supervisior wanted no part of - and made that clear to me from the first day I started. Manager then preceded to hide themselves in their own work leaving me with no instructions or guidence whatsoever. Ask questions, and they will talk down to you like you are a child. The teams are constanly in competition with each other over sucking up to team leader.
