Pros

The relationships built with children, families, and center staff.

Cons

Loooong hours (14+ per day). New upper management with no experience with children, who rule by fear and intimidation. They expect centers to hit financial goals through any means necessary, regardless of the impacts on children and staff. There are no more promotions in upper management, all outside new hires from retail. I used to respect the CEO and his chosen leaders, and I believed they just didn't know how bad it had gotten at the center level. Now I think they look the other way as long as the money is coming in. I just couldn't do it anymore.

Pros

Benefits are decent. I was able to work at my location for almost 6 years. The children are wonderful. They usually draw an above average clientele. The parents think because they pay so much, they must be getting the best care. Sometimes that's true, but sometimes its not.

Cons

Management at all levels is horrific. They do not want e-mails concerning issues. They do not answer phone calls. Promises are often not worth a penny. Children are constantly being moved around so they can send teachers home. HR Dept as well is third rate at best. Just try and get hold of them and get answers to your questions. This coming from an employee who was a top award recipient most of my time there. When a raise was taken away from me because they wanted me to take additional classes, but wouldn't afford me the time to take the class, that was the beginning of the end. Transfers are almost nonexistent. My director simply would not allow me to leave. Even employment outside the company was mysteriously stopped after the new company would talk to my KLC director. Calls and e-mails to area management....still waiting for contact back. I did not realize how bad it was until I switched to another company. The director at the new company knew all about the games KLC plays and refused to even contact my KLC director for a reference. She trusted her own instincts, she told me.

Pros

-Got to meet and interact with great children and their families -Most of the teachers genuinely care about the kids (although they get fed-up and leave when they realize they are powerless in an environment of flagrant corruption and refuse to contribute to the negligence )

Cons

-Homogenized approach to promote the brand name that masquerades as a classroom set-up which gets in the way of actual learning experiences -Bottom-line and the $$$$ matters more to the higher-ups than the children -Kids are seen as commodities to the company -Understaffed -Unlawful ratios -Violations of NAEYC rules -Abusive Upper-Management especially at a regional level -Knowledge Universe that owns KinderCare doesn't understand the needs and interests of actual children
