Short-termism destroying company

Pros

The salaries are reasonable and the employer pension contributions are pretty good - though better when you're older. A number of colleagues were able to get payrises and promotions by threatening to leave - or actually going through with it before being tempted back by desperate management. Not, I think, that this says good things about the company - but it is a handy tip.

Cons

An awful lot of the management are horrendously incompetent and there's a revolving door for most senior positions. Everyone's out for themselves and meeting their own targets, even if that means lying to clients about audits and SLAs or bullying employees who aren't able to work 20+ hours overtime per week. Short-termist policies driven by short-termist management make it impossible to make any real sustained improvement in the company. Many would rather sacrifice employees' work-life balance and quality of work in the name of "efficiency" only to end up paying more in fines, overtime and enhancements than they would have paid by hiring a reasonable amount of staff in the first place. Some teams can have a really nasty bullying culture and nobody cares as long as it helps senior management tread water. Never seen a company with such consistently poor pensions knowledge and skills - across huge swathes of the company, apart from employees acquired through buying other businesses - including their so-called technical and quality experts. Systems are a joke but improvements never get made because it's all in-house.
