Pros

Honestly at this point in time there isn’t a single benefit in working for Ikea except there paid time off.

Cons

Management is untrained and does not care about the coworkers. I have never in my life seen so many unqualified managers in my life. No one knows there actual job responsibility. They just did a restructure and it was the biggest flop I have ever seen. How the CEO gave the ok for this reorganization is beyond me. But after it happened and was a complete mess everyone in charge jumped ship to different roles and neglected responsibility. The biggest thing is they are hiring brand new coworkers at higher rates for then coworkers who have been with the company for years... and these are for the same positions as the knowledgeable coworkers and the coworker then has to train the new person making more then them.

Pros

-Fun co-workers -Casual atmosphere -Decent starting pay for retail work -15% discount off everything in store -Inexpensive lunches -Benefits, including matching 401K contributions

Cons

-IKEA restructured, doing away with all the HR investments they had for their co-workers when I started in 2012. -No more annual performance evaluations, which used to end with a small annual raise. There also used to be an annual bonus program that ended around 2016. -IKEA hides behind a smoke and mirrors display of innovation, inclusivity, and diplomacy. However, the US stores have fallen short to the European stores in terms of technology, overall work/life balance, and co-worker engagement. -Right before I left, IKEA changed to a more Americanized business operation, taking away the salaries of upper management and switching them to lower, hourly wages. They created more positions within the store that they do not have the resources to hire for and fill. Current staff is spread thin across many different areas and have not received compensation increases.

A (hard) fall from grace

Pros

For the wonderful first 6 years of my career with IKEA, I never for a moment would have considered rating IKEA as anything less than a perfect five-stars. IKEA was (yes, sadly "was") a five-star organization; the company had an exceptional culture, which was rooted in a fantastic, well-adhered-to set of of values. Unfortunately, the US organization will be/was completely restructured in October, and it appears that the IKEA values (as well as logic and common sense) were completely scrubbed from the new organization.

Cons

The true con is what the current US country managers, Lars Peterson and Nabeela Ixtabalan, have done to what was once an exemplary and beloved organization. Their pet reorganization project, dubbed "Organizing for Growth" or O4G, has unraveled productivity and morale at an alarmingly rapid pace. Many "lifers" (coworkers with over 10, 20, or 30 years of experience with IKEA) are leaving or have already left. The future looks extremely uncertain, and unfortunately the only certainties are lower salaries and significantly higher hour requirements (full-time coworkers must now commit 80 hours/week to IKEA).
