Pros
PTO accrual is good. Health benefits are great. Dental, vision mediocre.
Cons
• Outdated technology o Old and slow computers with single monitor setup (1280 x 1024 resolution), limiting productivity. o Multiple tools to perform one job function (no universal solution for customers). • Management o Witnessed many last-minute reactions to legitimate problems. Deliveries are behind for an entire state? Customer service doesn’t need a script, there’s no reason to universally inform our patrons. Systems went down and none of the agents can help customers? No contingency plan. Literally “try your best” is the only documented plan in place. o Nepotism Witnessed many co-workers turned down from jobs for reasons that violate IKEA’s own policies while underqualified candidates were promoted based on their relationship with the hiring manager. Same group of managers looking out for one another. When one got promoted, the others got promoted shortly after. “Interim” positions used instead of searching for more qualified candidates. o Communication Poor. Very, very poor. Witnessed managers getting angry or upset over decisions that were made, demanding to know who made them, only to find out their own bosses or colleagues were responsible. Multiple emails to address one issue, each with different instructions. Would often decline to document conversations or strategies due to inconvenience. o Style Too many bosses, leaders are rare. Decisions and ideas were for management only. Contributed several ideas that were turned down by management, only to have those exact ideas resurface a month or two later with managers taking credit. Witnessed supervisors berated by managers instead of building towards solutions. Would rather throw their own direct reports under the bus than admit they made a mistake.
