-No support or understanding of employees with families. I worked with an all childless "team" at the rural location where I worked who clearly voiced their hatred for children every chance they could get.
-You're only training is through a computer program instead of being trained by a person. My manager literally went on vacation five days after I was hired for four days. My coworkers were expected to assist in training me, but the moral was so bad I got left alone at the front counter with no clue how to properly complete a rental or return. Customers were waiting in line over an hour including a celebrity Hertz platinum customer.
-EVERYONE STARTS AS A MANAGER IN TRAINING EVEN IF YOU HOLD A MASTER'S DEGREE! Which is ok. I get the rational behind structuring a company this way. But, I took the job despite holding a Master's because I'm humble. However, everyone else around me besides the manager took my humbleness and willingness to work hard as signs of weakness. I was constantly spoke down to because I asked questions and actually tried to learn about/how to properly do the job which was perceived by others as a lack of intelligence apparently.
-70+ hours of computer learning modules are required for all employees and must completed to advance within the company. Not an impossible task and the modules were informative, but this can't be the only training tool being utilized by Hertz.
-There was no discloser anywhere about who management was above my manager.
Overall, poor hiring tactics. Be prepared for all of your coworkers to exhibit bad customer service (there are very yes we can attitudes here) and complain about how they have an Associates or Bachelor's degree, but are working here. Also, don't expect much guidance from your manager as they will most likely be young and inexperienced. My manager kept on an employee who was a sales associate who refused to work the front desk so he spent all day washing cars...well sort of there were a lot of times when you'd go to the area where he was suppose to be washing cars and wasn't there. We never seemed to have any clean cars to rent out, but everyone had a lot of time to stand around (except the manager who seemed to be doing everything). Seems like this employee should have been spoken to, but nothing was ever said by management who was too busy asking her employees to drive broken/unsafe cars into town for repair on the 1-17. I couldn't tell you what the emergency plans were at my location. I got tired of my coworkers constantly being upset at me for asking them to follow company policy/state law LIKE WEARING SEATBELTS when in the vehicles!
I couldn't stick around long enough anymore under the working conditions especially with no guarantee of being promoted.
