Pros

If your lucky you get to work with some good people. Most of the customers are great and you have ones that come in every day and I love getting to know them. The pay is good for our division which is eastern nc. No one gets paid minimum wage and we have good benefits. But you must be willing to work hard and stay busy all day. You also must be willing to work in other positions, it's a team effort.

Cons

The policies from corporate can hinder you and the business. Like no communication devices to call someone from the back if you need help or need a manager. You have to stop what you are doing and leave the front of the store unstaffed. Could be very easy for customers to walk out without paying. This could be solved with a radio voice system. They also don't take debit/ credit cards which causes customers to leave and not complete their purchase. They probably lose minimum $150 a day because of this policy. I have had many walkouts. Yes they would have to pay processing fees but that would be way less then the amount they are losing. We also can't price anything if there is no price on it. We have to take it to the back for reprocessing and are not allowed to get a price and then take it back to the customer. Again that's a lost sale. And they have a point system for employees even for being 1 minute late or even sick with a doctors note. So the last 5 minutes of your lunch you will be watching the punch clock. You can't be one minute early or one minute late. Corporate also makes you feel like you are not allowed mistakes and they expect every employee to steal. They have cameras everywhere, which is fine, but they even have one in the break room. They have a high turn over because of firing quickly for minor things. And some customers will leave a mess but that's just retail. And some will complain because they want something cheaper then $3 but that's just retail also.

Pros

we recently got 1.50 pay raise for everyone who is starting out (cashier, sales associate, etc.) We get every other weekend off (Saturday and Sunday). I work with some really great people.

Cons

Some of the customers already get a really great deal, and they complain anyway. For example: they will take an adult women's shirt and try to convince cashiers it's a kids shirt on Toddler Thursday. Some of the special deals (like half off furniture) is vague on which ones is considered furniture so the customers think it's everything in furniture section like a lamp or record player and get mad when we have to tell them it's not furniture special. Some of the newer managers (who aren't new anymore) could be better at being a manager. Sometimes I have to teach her how to do things at the register!
