Pros

General Mills has a beautiful campus, great benefits and exciting brands. A healthy work life balance is promoted at General Mills and employees value their time away from the office. Most employees at General Mills take pride in their job and it shows through the quality of their work and their attitude in the office. Overall, it is an extremely positive atmosphere at General Mills and people enjoy their jobs. General Mills also takes care of their employees. Employeed feel empowered and secure in their jobs and don't feel like there is a target on their back. In terms of large companies in the twin cities, General Mills is definitely one of the best.

Cons

Like many big companies, General Mills is very political. Office politics play a big role in promotion decisions. Organizational changes are kept under wraps by senior managment so oftentimes there is quite a bit of gossiping around the company. Since the company is so large it seems to take forever for decisions to be made. You could almost compare the company to a huge ship in that it takes a long time to turn. Also, since General Mills is such a great company there are a lot of employeed who have been here for a long time. It is sometimes hard to bring in new ideas.

Pros

Wide open career path. will let you take your career in any direction you desire. Engineers can go nito marketing, Operations, Quality Control, and vice versa. Education is supplemented well by company after employment. Non-degreed, but long term experienced personnel are treated fairly and encouraged to improve their position and earnings power.

Cons

Eager to share information, but administrative structure not set up to do so efficiently. When shifts in philosophy or new directions are planned for, word of mouth gets around quicker than formal acknowledgement of these types of changes. It is important at times to keep some of this communication confidential, but it seems to be difficult to ascertain what to share and what not to share.
