Overall, it is an extremely positive atmosphere at General Mills and people enjoy their jobs. General Mills also takes care of their employees. Employeed feel empowered and secure in their jobs and don't feel like there is a target on their back. In terms of large companies in the twin cities, General Mills is definitely one of the best.
Cons
Like many big companies, General Mills is very political. Office politics play a big role in promotion decisions. Organizational changes are kept under wraps by senior managment so oftentimes there is quite a bit of gossiping around the company. Since the company is so large it seems to take forever for decisions to be made. You could almost compare the company to a huge ship in that it takes a long time to turn. Also, since General Mills is such a great company there are a lot of employeed who have been here for a long time. It is sometimes hard to bring in new ideas.
