Pros

People who have no clue of this business are hired as long as you know someone or you are hiring managers choice and liking. SPECIALLY OHARE, CHICAGO. Allot of benefits are showing on papers and not in real life. People who know this business and have experience are not hired,, dont know why??? Very unprofessional culture specially illinois. Too much talks, meetings, agenda but no results and actions. very good company in motivating to do more task and never reply on improvements for employee. VERY UNSAFE WORKING CONDITIONS. The Government department of HEALTH AND OTHER DEPARTMENTS come for visit with advance notice so everything is cleaned and crystal shine, once gone every department is back to same slump and swamp. I dont know how Illinois operations is still on and company is running.

Cons

VERY BIG QUESTION WHY SO MANY EMPLOYEES LEAVE THIS COMPANY EVERYDAY???????? AND THE MANAGEMENT IS STILL THE SAME FROM LAST 5 PLUS YEARS....IT CLEARLY SHOWS MANAGEMENT IS NOT INTERESTED IN EMPLOYEES. Employees are tired of complaining and last leave the job. OHARE HR Department is hiring people of choice not people with credentials and experience...Senior management is watching and waiting for employees to SUE THE COMPANY....Thats what it looks like......People who are HONEST, HARD WORKING, PROFESSIONAL ARE DRILLED DOWN, People who are LAZY, AND JUST SAY YES SIR... ARE PROMOTED. THIS IS HOW YOU GROW IN THIS COMPANY. This company lost many contract and business in last some years because they dont know what is customer service FOR INTERNAL CUSTOMER AND EXTERNAL CUSTOMERS....forget it its a waste of time even apply for this company specially CHICAGO TILL THIS HR AND MANAGEMENT IS WORKING THERE.....

Pros

Hmm good question-gain a great understanding of the complexity of the airline catering industry.

Cons

There many challenges in this industry, within Gate Gourmet its clearly a race to the bottom in terms of cost, make no mistake about it, there business is not about serving the customers, its about serving the share holders at the expense of the customers and associates. Each group and department operates in a silo or vacuum, nobody knows what other groups are doing and there was constant political "positioning" battles, zero sharing of resources, knowledge and the result was duplication of efforts. One of the more bizarre being once capital was approved for a project or capital equipment, it required another approval to actually spend and yet another approval to issue a purchase order $200 or $2M did not matter. CFO had to personally approve and sign every capital purchase order-this after the capital had already been approved using "the approval matrix" another unique and bizarre process so complex most don't understand it or even believe it exist.

Pros

Supervisors make slightly more than industry average

Cons

Lack of training, carrot-and-stick management, micromanagement. Too much overtime, no appreciation. Management treats employees like robots.
