Pros

After many glaring issues of employee abuse and mismanagement over the past several years, Essilor upper management has turned their focus into improving the situation in Toronto, and it shows. The overall climate has evolved to one of mutual collaboration and respect, with the worst offenders of the above having been removed from the company. The health benefits provided by Essilor are very good, and the employee eyewear program means that you will have a new pair of glasses every year. Depending on your bilingual status, there are numerous opportunities to rise up in responsibility and trust (but not so much in pay).

Cons

"French ceiling" - there is a cap to your professional growth if you do not speak French. Being a company from France, with a Canadian home office in Montréal, this makes sense - but it is very frustrating to experience in Toronto. Compensation is simply not adequate. Year after year lower-level employees must continuously sacrifices to their person lives purely for the purpose of continuing to work for Essilor while surviving in the GTA. Personally, if I ever need to resign from the company it will be due to lack of adequate pay and no other reason.

Pros

No pros. The company has little vision, a continual revolving door of mass hiring and mass lay offs.

Cons

Extremely unethical company who has absolutely no knowledge of fair and ethical business practises. If you don’t speak French, you don’t have a chance to be anything except used and abused. They use intimidation and scare tactics to try to squeeze work out of the predominately “newcomer to Canada” demographic which is sad because they do not know their employment rights under the employment standards act. They will throw you out, the minute they can replace you with someone who will do your job for less compensation. They talk about training and development online and through social media channels to make it look like they invest in their employees however the only people who receive any shred of training are those who are ex-pats from France.

Pros

Good and flexible Managers Great place to learn Awesome place to start your career

Cons

Poor pay / hike Poor bonuses Slow paced and Not technology driven Old school Not much scope for growth if you are mid level or experienced. Lot of cases, you have less competent employees who keep switching from one department to another. These fail to prove their caliber in the new role and then end up switching within role just to survive. Needless to say it is not because they are talented it is just because they cannot find any other job.
