Pros

The best thing about Essilor is the compensation due to the high end products that are sold. The community involvement would be another positive aspect. Pretty decent work/life balance.

Cons

It may sound like a cliche, but the company is truly a good 'ole' boy network. Essilor acquires a vast amount smaller optical companies, and with that comes the intergration of inviduals who are grandfathered into the company with life time contracts.(Extreme nepatism). Needless to say, it is a total recipe for disaster to incorporate a "mom & pop" philosophy into a corporate structure. If you are looking for innovation, don't stop here. The company is extremely prehistoric in terms of system applications, and processes. It is difficult to learn anything. No formal training. It is very much a "hit the ground running" type of atmosphere.

Pros

Fancy HQ Office in the heart of Bangalore, Stock Options

Cons

1. Very old school work culture - micro management, lauding late nights, disturbing in personal time is a practice, bias towards people from same background. 2. Zero Innovation - repeating same products with new names 3. Employee stay here only for stock options 4. Top Management like CEO/CFO keeps changing every 6 months 5. Work Life balance is a myth 6. HR team - outdated; lacks knowledge and is often unable to answer any query. No training or career development provided. Laws and policies - employees are asked to read and understand from HR portal. Employees face sudden tax cuts/LOP's with no information or explaination. 7. No bonus or hike since last 5 years and at the same time top management organizes events in luxurious hotels 8. Outdated technology and systems provided 9. Bias between HQ and branch offices. Few branches like Kolkata have broken ceiling. 10. Engagement activity is almost nil. No intervention in terms of culture, employee development or training. 11. Women employees are very little in number. Managers openly make sexist jokes and insult them. 12. Average age group working here is old 40-50 yrs. Young employees leave within 1 year of joining. 13. Unprofessional subsidiary entities

Pros

Smart and hard working peers

Cons

EoA is managed from afar. The puppet masters in Italy and France don’t like having their version of reality challenged. As an added bonus, it’s easier to fire Americans than French employees so guess where all the cost cutting job cuts happen?
