Pros

You get to travel, live abroad, meet fantastic people They make it very easy to get a visa

Cons

It's an after school language program so your days off are during the week, and you work long hours on Saturday and Sunday. Working at a Kindergarten has double the pay and much less hours

Thank you for your review. We agree that living abroad, and getting the opportunity to meet fantastic people is one of the things that people love most about EF. Working evenings and weekends can be difficult, but unfortunately it's the time when students in China are available to study at a language school. Schedules are disclosed during the recruitment process and in your work contract, prior to signing. With that said, we are always looking at ways to improve the schedule, and overall experience for our teachers, and your feedback is appreciated.

Pros

Training in-depth. Co-workers easy to relate to. Professional and comfortable work environment. Opportunities to expand in to other aspects of teaching English. E.g. Marketing, recruitment, etc.

Cons

Compensation competitively low. Promotion is slap dash, often used as a bartering tool to make individuals stay. Managers heavily pressured to just produce favourable data. For example, if a teacher is ill, they are encouraged to force them back to work. This is just to keep their staff efficiency high. Managers unable to discipline staff effectively. Terrified of losing teachers, even though some have not being doing basic responsibilities. Too many decisions made split second. Often going back on well established policy and protocol.

Thank you for your post and for your 3+ years of service. We agree that our teachers are our key resource and appreciate your feedback. Our staff and students health and safety is our top priority at EF. We expect staff members to take the time needed to recover after being ill in order to not only ensure their health, but also the health of our students and the rest of the staff. The sick leave policy is outlined in the Work Manual. If you would be willing to share more details about your experience, please contact our team at teacher.welfare@ef.cn. It would be helpful to understand the specifics and see if there are potential areas of improvement.

Thank you for taking the time to post. We are happy to hear that you found a supportive environment at your school, and benefited from the hands on training. Teaching can be a very challenging job, with weekend and evening hours required, and we understand this is not for everyone. We do, however, thank you for your service, and wish you success in wherever your career takes you next.
