Pros

Picked you up the airport. Provided TEFL certification, I liked the people at my center and they pay for new recruits to spend two weeks in a hotel while they find a place to live.

Cons

This is horrible company. Their system is essentially no different than any other language school. I was one of the lucky teachers in the respect that I received some training, others were just tossed into the classroom. I worked with Kids and Teens, the Teaching Assistants I worked with were no help what so ever, but were eager to tell my supervisor about how bad my classroom management was. I received next to no help from my supervisor The teaching materials are laughable, much of them are a waste of time and completely unusable. Main Point- I was a public school teacher in the United States for 6 years. Believe me when I say, if you want to teach EF is not a school. it is a company seeking money. that is all!!! there re better offers

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear about your experiences with our company, and we take such comments seriously. Training is very important to us at EF, and it is something that we take great pride in. We would like to investigate this matter further so that we can understand the situation outlined in your feedback. If you could, please send an email to teacher.feedback@ef.com, and kindly provide us with more details about the type of school you were working at, then we can then follow up with this case.

Pros

Flexible - create your own schedule from week to week. Open 24hrs a day so suits those in any time zone. Easy - all group class materials are pre-prepared and are very straightforward and easy to use. Fun - Lovely students and short classes make for a fun atmosphere. I worked various hours as a contract teacher over several years and overall the job was enjoyable, extremely convenient and suited my needs. I taught mainly private classes and spent my own time preparing class material which was not a problem for me as I was at home and could do it when convenient. I enjoyed it and the students really were super.

Cons

Pay - EF employs teachers of all levels of ability so the low pay (£6-£7) is good for some but very poor for those of us demanding £20 an hr elsewhere. Management - I was left to my own devices most of the time but I saw decent teachers treated very badly, threatened, accused of being unprofessional and underpaid every month! IT - Constant problems with sound and connection. Considering it is an online school this should be faultless. Customer service - I got many complaints from students about cost and how they were not given the service they paid for, that is unacceptable for any school. You MUST treat your students kindly and with respect. I felt very bad for some of them. Overwork - more and more work is being demanded for the same pay which was starting to get out of hand just before I left. I felt the respect for teachers was even lower than that for students sadly.

Pros

The visa is legit. Some good support when you arrive in China. Some average promotions available at local head office, if you are willing to put up with a lot of hell for one year. Lesson plans are all provided ready made to teach. Everything else, I can't think of anything good to say.

Cons

Refusal to pay bonuses originally promised. Constantly giving extra hours. They refuse to help with your visa if you decide to change jobs---they often lie to make sure you don't teach anywhere else. They don't pay enough for the work you are required to do. Poor training and development, duplicitous about legalities of transferring visas. If you're going to work for a language training centre in China go to Wall Street. Holding onto teachers' visa documents (Foreign Experts Certificate) for 'safekeeping', so that you cannot break contracts and continue to work in China. Lying to parents about teachers future prospects once they leave.

Thank you for your review. As you mentioned above, the visas that we offer people are completely legitimate and legal. With this comes with a string of laws and regulations as set by the Chinese government. It is almost impossible to transfer visas between companies and many foreign documents are indeed kept for safekeeping because, if they are lost, they are irreplaceable. However, teachers can access these documents at any time should the require them.
