Awesome Employee Discount, Management Needs Work

Pros

The employee discount is unreal. I learned so much in my time at Dover and I met so many new people.

Cons

I often was left alone on the floor while my manager was in the back. It would either be empty for hours so I had nothing to do or we would be slammed and she wouldn't come help and I'd be left alone. The way we processed UPS was awful. Our system was terrible to use, and I never felt well trained. It's extremely important to know tons of different products, inside and out, but we rarely had good trainings. It was very hard to get time off. I missed lunch breaks often. My manager was not the most friendly and made it an unpleasant environment.

Pros

Very nice store with good employee discount. It was nice to work somewhere where I had extensive product knowledge, so felt confident in assisting customers.

Cons

Management is very poor, if not nonexistent. There is blatant preferential treatment for some, and inappropriate behavior, which alienates employees and causes low morale. The lack of corporate structure makes it impossible to speak with anyone else to resolve any personnel issues. There is no Human Resources department at Dover. The feeling is that Dover doesn't care about individual employees as long as the stores are making their numbers. So my advice to someone looking to work there is this: as long as you can not let favoritism bother you, that you can just go with the flow, and that you are ok with a non-corporate environment with very little professional communication or consideration, then you will be fine there. You will definitely never earn enough to support yourself if you live alone, no matter how many hours you work. But if you just want something part-time that involves horse things and horse people, this could be a good fit for you.

Pros

The people are great and my boss was great. I absolutely looked forward to coming in to work every day.

Cons

Cons are the usual for any customer service position--people can make/break your day if they're nice vs difficult to work with. That's just how it goes, I'm afraid.
