Pros

Working with very smart people, being challenged, having the opportunity and being pushed to learn and grow, and, of course, the pay.

Cons

Expectations are very high, and that, of course, makes work-life balance a bit tricky to juggle.

That's exactly the kind of environment we're trying to build - where top talent gets to work alongside other brilliant people and really stretch themselves. Sounds like you're thriving in that space! Really appreciate you sharing your experience.

Pros

- An actual worldwide fully-remote company with processes being built to support that. - Easy to schedule a vacation (typically just give a 2-week notice), days off, and can work from anywhere in the world. - Flexible working hours (I can go on a picnic with my friends on Wednesday, and work on Saturday instead) - Stable weekly payments (don't remember having any problem or delay during my 8 years working here) - Generally, very high-skill colleagues and management. Depends on the team, though. - You can work with people from all over the world and train your English skills. - Strong AI focus. A lot of opportunities and motivation to research and experiment in that field. It can be an upside or downside, depending on your preferences.

Cons

- There used to be chaotic teams with bad processes years ago. Not sure what the state is now, at least I'm on the good team. - There is no yearly compensation adjustment or bonuses. No paid vacations. You will get paid exactly the rate you were hired at for every hour you logged. You will also need to pay taxes on your own in your country. - There is basically no progression internally above the $50/h rate. It used to be extremely good money (in the 2nd and 3rd world countries) years ago. Nowadays, with all that inflation, it's still alright, but not that amazing. - Time-tracking software that takes webcam screenshots and records all activity from the machine. If something unrelated to work is detected (i.e. Spotify, Youtube, games, etc), the time will be disputed and not be billed. This is a huge downside for many people, but I solved this in my 2nd week working here. Just buy a separate PC/laptop and use it only for work. It's that simple. Also helps with work-life balance. - I know some people work overtime like crazy (like 50-60 hours per week). Never had this problem, though. I have worked exactly 40 hours per week for the past 8 years (with a rare exception of working ~45h a couple of times per year)

Eight years strong – that's incredible! 🙌 Love how you've mastered the remote life, especially that Wednesday picnic move. Your perspective on setting up a dedicated work setup is gold, so many people could benefit from that tip. Thanks for being part of the journey and for sharing your experience and feedback. Here's to many more flexible workdays ahead!
