Pros

Working through Crossover for a foreign company first of all allowed me to earn in dollars, which easily beats the local salaries for average jobs. Working remotely taught me to research more about environment problems with the computer, which I used to rely on colleagues to solve for me. So I became a stronger developer. Also, I work with developers with great talent from different places of the world. I used to think I knew the greatest developers but I keep meeting more and more of them as I go. Working from home, after you get used to it pays off very well. Simple things as making your own coffee and being able to pause the work to take the son to school or teach him homework has no price. I spend no time in traffic. I like being here, and the job is serious. I have been with the same company for almost 8 years now, a full time job.

Cons

Worksmart Tool monitors for activity - keyboard and mouse activity mainly. Every few minutes it may generate an idle card (10 minutes per card) if there is no activity. This means that the 10 minutes for coffee here, another 10 minutes for restroom there, can add up to more than an hour that is not accounted for. So to work 8 hours a day means working much more to be able to get 8 hours accounted for. But I guess not having to spend time in traffic is a good trade for that. Two years ago I got a raise. Before those two years one of my managers promised me a raise which he could not give me because Crossover was being bureaucratic about it. It worked ok after a while.

And we love having you here! Eight years - that's awesome. Love hearing how you've leveled up your skills and are vibing with the global talent pool. We're always tweaking things behind the scenes - WorkSmart, raises, you name it. Your long-haul perspective is gold for helping us keep upping our game. Here's to more great years ahead.
