Pros

Crate has a family-like atmosphere, and generally employs highly-educated individuals (in terms of the retail industry). The company's benefits package is generous, and their training programs well-developed. It's a successful retail concept, with a proven-track record of excellence in merchandising.

Cons

Crate values tenure over all other job qualifications. Education and experience (with other companies or within other industries) seem to be unimportant as an evaluative function for promotion or placement. It can be quite frustrating and demoralizing. Generally, should you want to work at the corporate offices in more than an administrative capacity, you must start in middle management in the retail stores and work your way up.

Pros

- Great Retail Experience - For Those Looking To Begin or Further a Career In Retail, Especially Toward Home and Design - Great Discount - 30% Starting, 40% With Tenure - Great If You Love The Product - Great Company Culture - Overall Friendly and Helpful Environment...If You're Willing To Learn It, They're Willing To Teach It - Ease of Job Transferability - New Store Openings or Individual/Family Relocation, They're Willing To Make It Work

Cons

- Mandatory One-Weekend-Day Shifts - Expected For Any Retail Job - Lack of Advancement Opportunities - Possibly Due To The Economy; Someone's Gotta Go For Someone Else To Grow, Unless There's A New Store Opening (Which Is Seldom) - Employee-Atmosphere/Experience Varies With Location - From Personal Experience - Possible "B-Team Mentality" With Some Associates and Store Management - Self Explanatory - Compensation - Not Bad For Retail, But A Full-Time Housewares Associate Can Easily Outsell Their Weekly Compensation In A Day...Or Five Minutes With A Furniture Sale - Benefits - Certainly Not The Best For A Retailer (compared to Mega-Retailers such as The Home Depot), Part Timers Are Left Out Almost Entirely

Pros

There's a great community feel to the store & the whole company. We do community service projects together- the AidsWalk, Passionately Pink Day, etc., people are generally happy to be there and interested in how you are doing, and we try to have a good time with the customers and each other. and they offer a good discount. They also just opened the first store in Canada, so there's some great growth happening.

Cons

Retail is retail. And some stores don't close until 8 or 9 at night, and you may have to be in early the next morning.
