Good package but poor team heads at Procurement HK (APD)

Good salary package with 18 days ALs, 2 sets of free-of-charge tickets (included direct family member) per year plus 4 companies (other relatives), and basic medical (50% contributed by the company)

Cons

the political environment in APD HK, especially female team heads who like to share bosses' bad comments and bad-mouth, job-related information through gossip channels. Less cohesion, a negative tone, and pushback job.

Really nice people in local region An easy place to work Good for unambiguous, low and mid level employees who don’t intend to grow or be promoted but want a decent paycheck and ability to travel

Cons

A real “us versus them” culture between the regions and the head office in Hong Kong. Woefully under experienced and under educated leadership. Command and control work environment where HK controls everything and local markets only execute as told. There is little to no autonomy in the regions; execution only, not strategic. A very unhappy bunch of really nice people in the Americas commercial teams.

Why Cathay is different from other airlines

Pros

People really are important at Cathay, top management makes that very clear. Cathay is a big company with more than 20,000 employees but feels like a family. Senior management and the major shareholder, Swire, have a very long term perspective and do not manage to the next quarter, they look 5-10 years out at a minimum.

Cons

Cathay is an airline, oil price volatility hits it hard. People do not work at Cathay to get rich, but they stay because of the supportive, friendly environment.
