Pros

Work Life balance. CGI Federal is not like other consulting firms and offers a very flexible work schedule which is the only reason I am still working at this company.

Cons

--It's very hard to find a good manager at CGI Federal. The senior management hammers project managers so hard about hitting their numbers that the people who are actually doing the grunt work are ignored and forgotten about. --Promotions are ridiculous and all about whos rear-end you can kiss. People who have been working here for 5+ years are still consultants whereas a person working for 2 years who started as a college hire is promoted to Sr. Consultant. It's almost a joke. --In order to get promoted, they will tell you that you need to do X, Y, and Z. So then X, Y and Z come along and they will not let you do them hence holding you back from your career growth. It's all about the money at this place.

Pros

Some good first level managers, who were open to alternative work arrangements. Better compensation then other firms I worked at.

Cons

Executive hold out possibility of bonus if business unit meet profit margin, then sets unrealistic margin (is 13% after tax profit realistic in this economy?). No work-at-home policy. (The technology enables it, as a technology firm CGI should be leading the way.)

Pros

Health benefits and unlimited sick days were the best reason to stay, but I hear they are scaling back on both. This is a great place for new college graduates to ease their way in without experiencing much stress or change in lifestyle. It is also a great place for people with families. If you need to get in a little late a few days a week to pick up the kids, they are more than understanding.

Cons

Slow career advancement and low pay raises was my reason for leaving. I was put on a long-term project with little room for growth and career advancement.
