Pros

The pay is quite good

Cons

Very difficult environment to get any meaningful work done, you spend a lot of energy learning the latest gimmiky computer systems , avoiding political landmines and other people who are clawing their way up the ladder.

Pros

- Safety consciousness and great HSE initiatives - Very good compensation, benefits, and perks. - Great opportunities to do technical work and to get a fair amount of training - Work- life balance and all the flexibility you can think of. - Top-notch coworkers and lots of opportunities to learn from them.

Cons

- Company culture went downhill after the Shale exit: blatant favoritism, cronyism, unmerited promotions, dozens of BS jobs, too much unnecessary work, lots of disengaged managers, high attrition, etc. (This culture is supposed to enable the workforce to take BHP Petroleum to greater heights). - They are extremely preachy with inclusion and diversity (not the right way to do it) while they exhibit a fair amount of conscious biases in the way they hire and promote. - No growth opportunities; too many chiefs and people trying to maintain the status quo. - They offshore too many jobs (and they are open about it); some departments (globally structured) have so many obstacles to get work done. - Only one relevant asset is operated from Houston (declining). This is essentially a non-operated business.

5 stars for benefits, fails at supervisor selection

Pros

Start off with 3 weeks vacation, 100% company match to 6% with 401k (in some cases more), 10 sick days/yr, subsidized lunches($5 for entree & 3 sides/desserts) gym membership, covered parking, good pay, nice facilities.

Cons

Too many people who do sloppy work and make life miserable for team members who actually try to make the company better. Supervisors picked who are not knowledgeable about the team they are supposed to lead. The lazy or slow-learning employees are not called out and the hard-working ones end up picking up the slack but are under-appreciated. Career development is encouraged, but after seeing people transferred to teams and positions without the basic qualifications to fulfil the roles, it is easy to lose all hope.
