Pros

Hourly Pay Work Truck Truck Wash On Site Gas Pumps Great place to work if you are single with no kids

Cons

I learned a lot about myself here. I asked management for 2 days off in a row because of Dr appointments coming up and needing to rest afterwards. Manager laughed at my request and stated, “How is taking off for 2 days going to make someone feel better?” Working 12-14 hr days, fixing other techs mistakes. Customer base is very privileged, I had customers follow me to my van, use foul language. Constantly hovering, second guessing my diagnosis because I’m a female. I had a customer stalk me on social media. I had to change my name and photo. We have had Miele newsletters about upcoming trainings I wanted to do, so I can preform better, my manager said “we’ll talk about it..” then nothing after wards. 14 houses on a daily is average here, so prepare for that.

We go above and beyond for our staff and always try to accommodate them. After noticing mistakes out on the field, we advised you to come to the shop every morning before going on the road for additional training. You failed to do so until we had to make it mandatory. Your route was also lightened to give you more training time. The high end training is only offered once our techs become proficient in general appliance repair. We are a busy store and our entire fleet rotates a Monday-Friday schedule. You are not the only one that would like a work-life balance and we try to make that happen for everyone. Sorry you are confusing self entitlement with earned privileges.

Pros

- Family-like culture and very cool workers in every department - $300-$800 Performance based bonus check every 4-5 months - A historically reputable Chicago business, you will have some status for working there. - One of those places where you work at till retirement if you aren't going anywhere else in life - Commission based sales

Cons

- Micromanagement within departments - Private single location, so higher paying jobs to move up to are limited. - Terrible work/life balance in sales - Bonus pay gets deducted heavy for petty mistakes, and barely increases when you do something good. - There will be lame sales people and even certain managers that will nose around and be envious/jealous of you if you get a nice sale - You have to work on 4th of July, new years and most holidays till 5-6pm - Senior management has to clear your department before you go if you're working a closing shift, and they like to take their sweet time some days

Abt Electronics has over 86 years in business, and that achievement has everything to do with the teamwork in our store and the relationship between our management and employees. We understand customers have many options on where to shop, and with the internet available it can be very competitive. We strive to continue providing the customer support that separates us from everyone else. Management overseeing the staff provides a guarantee that our customers are taken care of and makes sure our sales team is providing the Abt Experience we are known for. Like any sales floor it is fast paced, challenging, and competitive. The sales floor is not for everyone. Our sales team earns a great salary with a high retention rate to stay until retirement due to our combined success, not because they "aren't going anywhere else in life."

Pros

The community of employees is great.

Cons

During the pandemic Abt really messed up. We were given an option to not work, but that meant those of us who chose to work had mandatory overtime for MONTHS. When you are delivering and installing large appliances you physically cannot work 60 hour weeks for an extended period of time.

Abt chose to stay open during the pandemic to support our community with essential goods and allow our employees a chance to support their families. Whoever decided to stay on was grateful they were able to do this throughout those tough times. During the pandemic, we were extremely overrun with staffing issues, supply chain, and an overwhelming demand for certain essential goods. Most stores were shut down and not doing in-home deliveries and we were happy to have gotten the job done together with our staff. In fact, most of our crew was happy with the extra OT pay, extra bonus pay, and grateful to be able to help out our customers. The brothers worked side by side with their father (Abt Sr.) for many years and nothing has changed since his passing.
