I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Sears (Phoenix, AZ) in Apr 2012
Interview
I applied online and was immediately prompted to schedule an interview time. I show up 15 minutes early for the interview in dress clothes, and I am finally greeted by the lead cashier in the store who tells me that she will be conducting my interview. After describing the job qualifications, she proceeded to ask me inane and pointless questions like, "Tell me about a time where you gave great customer service." I had already formulated desirable answers to her questions and replied to them in a quick manner, and she seemed pleased. She then told me that she would give my application to the store manager who would examine it and, if i was hired, i would receive a phone call the following saturday (my interview was on tuesday). Saturday finally comes and I receive no call or even an email saying that I didn't get the job, so I decide to call the store and get an official answer. I called the HR department 4 times and no one managed to answer the phone. After being on hold for 20 minutes, 2 different people took my name and number down and told me that they would call me back with an answer. Monday arrives without any word from Sears, so I decide to go in the store and talk to someone face to face. Apparently the store manager did not look over my application, and the woman that interviewed me simply went with another candidate. Honestly, I am happy that I was not offered a position, because everyone in that store seemed absolutely worthless to me. No customer service, stupid interview process, and hypocritical management all make it an awful place to work. This should be a last resort for employment, because there are much better jobs out there that will not fail to recognize your true value rather than hiring 3-4 mentally deficient people who simply stand around on their phones all day. I will never set foot in a Sears again.

Describe a time when you gave excellent customer service
I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Sears (Newport News, VA) in Apr 2012
Interview
Sears, I must say, does the best in making sure it's potential hires are informed as far as what they are supposed to do. I filled out an application about a week before I received a call. I missed the initial call, but returned it and received a call back about an hour later to confirm my interview. I went into the human resource office on the day of my interview about 20 minutes before my scheduled time. Unfortunately, my interviewer was tied up in customer affairs and couldn't get to me right at the scheduled time, which gave me a little more time to prepare mentally. When she did come in, she was extremely nice and explained to me basically everything expected of me and pay rate. She scheduled the second part of my interview for the next day with the Operations Manager. Second interview lasted about 40 mins. Both of my interviewers seemed impressed with my experience as far as customer service. I was offered the job and accepted.
The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Sears (Lake Zurich, IL) in Apr 2011
Interview
Well, to work at Sears Hardware in Lake Zurich, you really only need one thing. You need to know someone that works there. There are a few times where people who don't know anybody at Sears Hardware will still get hired, but for the most part, it's friends that get hired. Now, the interview (if you get that far) is super easy. They just tell you what you're going to do. There really are no questions asked. Super easy and laid back interview. Wear something nice, but there's no need to dress up.
