I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at River Island (Crewe, England) in Nov 2016
Interview
Group Interview. Very informal, no need to wear a suit or office wear, just clothes you feel comfortable in and show your style. Everything done is talking in front of the whole group so make sure you are confident speaking in front of others. The interview was split into 3 group activities. Involved a role play activity where you work in pairs and one person pretends to be the sale assistant and another the customer. At the end we were told to pick an outfit from the shop and explain why we chose it.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
What is good/bad customer service? (group activity)
I applied in-person. I interviewed at River Island (Dublín, Dublín) in Sep 2017
Interview
I happened to get lucky when applying for an interview.
I walked in on the day they were hosting a recruitment and they allowed me to join in.
One of the manager who I handed my CV gave me a small bit of advice before going for the interview, "be confident." I found this is what got me the job as river island really look for people who are chatty and not shy. They need people who will approach and engage with customers. Make sure to hold eye contact with the manager when she is speaking and watch your body language as well! avoid crossing your arms because that builds a barricade between you and the manager. Nod and smile people, nod and smile. When she asks questions don't take them too seriously but don't be completely nonchalant, try make them laugh a little bit. they'll remember you for that. Also try and spark a conversation with the other people at the recruitment, the managers will be watching so turn to the people next to you and say "Hey, are you guys in college or..?" if so, ask them what they are doing and if not, talk about yourself and where you are currently. Friendly and confident is key. :)

Interview
Group interview with around 11 people including myself. Ages ranged from 16-30 i think and i think i was the youngest. I think they were looking for people who were 18-21. Manager explained what the job was and asked the group about upselling, if you know what it is say it out loud because i knew what it was but wasn’t confident enough to say. She then asked about cross selling then explained it. They asked our names and a time we received good customer service, at this point speak loud and make eye contact with the managers as first impressions matter. Got into groups of 3 and had to say why we wanted to work in river island whilst the managers were going round and listening in. I then spoke to the two people my group, introducing myself and asking questions and listening to avoid awkwardness. Stay in groups and someone be the customer looking for an outfit for an event eg. cinema/date and someone be the worker basically finding them the perfect outfit. Basically try to get a good item from the rack and then try and get another part of the outfit like if you get a top for the customer, try to upsell to get the customer to want bottoms. Try to be persuasive as that’s what you’ll be doing in River Island but don’t be pushy. The then ended and said they’d get back to us. After a day they did for me and i didn’t get it, i’m not sure if i wasn’t confident enough or it was because i wasn’t as available as they would have liked. I asked emailed them asking if the manager could email me back telling me what i could have did better and i was told if she has time but she is very busy. As my first interview it was okay. It said to be comfy and i wore a graphic tee, a black cami top and black culottes and converse which if i could change i would wear boots as everyone else was wearing boots and 2 girls wore culottes whilst two wore jeans. Good luck anyone!!
