Overview

Amazon is an American multinational technology company based in Seattle, Washington, focused on e-commerce, cloud computing, digital streaming, and artificial intelligence.

Challenges

  • Building country-specific Glassdoor profiles to target job seekers in different regions
  • Analyzing raw data in a spreadsheet without visualizations to share with leadership
  • Manually analyzing review content when diving deeper into trends

Solutions

  • Using “Quick Insights” summary metric cards in the context of specific timeframes to see what could have attributed to trends
  • Analyzing sentiment by job function and country
  • Seeing overall sentiment breakdown by positive, negative, and mixed sentiment, and how it changed over time
  • Quickly pulling reviews that mention trending topics

“It took what is currently available in the analytics section to the next level in terms of what I’m able to explore on my own without needing to download and manually analyze a large Excel spreadsheet.”

Senior Marketing Manager, Employer Brand

We spoke with a couple of Employer Brand managers at Amazon about their experience with Review Intelligence:

Amazon was interested in using Glassdoor’s Review Intelligence™ to inform how to localize their Glassdoor profiles and tailor content for job seekers in different locations. They wanted to get an understanding of review sentiment across locations to see how they can best highlight and or improve any of the review topics mentioned in those countries.

Currently, the process for their team consists of downloading a large spreadsheet of ratings and review data and sharing that across different teams to pull out insights manually. Amazon valued Review Intelligence™ so they could quickly see what topics were trending up or down. This allowed them to look deeper at topics that are typically mentioned in reviews as opportunity areas (such as diversity & inclusion and culture). They could also associate trends with specific time frames. For example, Amazon noticed a big spike in the number of reviews in one month and could draw conclusions as to why that occurred, based on the change in sentiment at that time for certain review topics.

Amazon has been encouraging employees, in general, to leave reviews, and seeing the effects of those initiatives is helpful in getting a pulse on their true employee experience. They liked that they could use Review Intelligence™ to see specific reviews per topic and download those to get a closer look. And in general, Amazon saw the value of Review Intelligence™ in allowing them to explore review data on their own without downloading a huge excel and being able to use the tool to quickly validate insights about what their employees think about the company.
