Overview

Equans is a world leader in the energy and services sector, with almost 800,000 projects and annual revenues of around $20 billion.

The company’s leading position in Europe includes a large footprint in the UK, with nearly 15,000 highly skilled employees providing technical services, facilities management, regeneration services, and energy solutions. Businesses and public sector organizations often turn to Equans for its expertise in areas like smart buildings, green mobility, and localized energy systems.

Challenges

The engineering and construction sectors have a critical skills shortage, and the potential for lateral attrition is high. Equans UK has a robust apprenticeship program, but it wanted to do more to retain promising participants post-training.

Beyond the sector-wide competition for talent, Equans is committed to achieving gender balance within its workforce, particularly in senior and operational roles traditionally filled by men. Recruiting top-tier talent, especially in STEM fields where female representation is low, is crucial to the company’s goals.

To attract and retain the next generation of leaders — while upskilling existing employees for the evolving marketplace — Equans needed to communicate that it’s a progressive workplace that values diversity and offers growth opportunities.

Solutions

The Equans UK Glassdoor profile provided a robust platform for sharing and reinforcing ongoing initiatives.

Through the Employer Branding Hub, Equans built out its Why Work With Us section to highlight its areas of expertise, its long-term growth and learning opportunities, and information on early careers and future jobs. This was anchored by Equans UK’s #ProudtoMakeitReal campaign, which spotlighted the lives and experiences of actual employees.

Equans also turned to Employer Branding Ads to increase awareness within its target recruitment demographics: skilled trades, construction, catering, engineering, housekeeping, and facilities management professionals. Together with Indeed, Glassdoor optimized engagement on mobile and desktop, matching Equans ads with job seekers through custom and native ads, as well as a featured review that spoke about flexible work, fair salaries, and career progression.

To enhance the company’s brand reputation and engage with its existing employees, Equans also boosted its efforts to respond to Glassdoor reviews and implement employee feedback.

Results

Equans UK’s work with Glassdoor yielded a massive payoff. The company saw an 84% increase in unique visitors and a 53% increase in page views across its Glassdoor and Indeed profiles1. It also experienced a 49% increase in apply starts.2

As a result of the Employer Branding Ad campaign, Equans saw 2 million additional views from its target audiences3 and surged to #1 for brand impressions — not only among direct competitors, but also against the Construction, Architectural & Engineering Services, and Commercial Equipment Services industries in the UK.4

In addition, the company’s storytelling and engagement efforts prompted employees to leave 82 new Glassdoor reviews — a 44% YOY increase5 — and resulted in a 0.6 bump in Equans UK’s overall Glassdoor rating.6 Plus, job seekers were now spending almost 4 minutes researching the company’s branded content before looking at jobs.7

Strengthening our employer brand has been a key focus, and our work with Glassdoor has contributed to this by helping us amplify our culture, career opportunities, and employee experiences. The increased engagement, applications, and feedback we’ve seen reflect our ongoing commitment to creating a workplace where people want to develop their careers.”
