Pros

The culture at ZoomInfo is positive, and the product line is commendable. You can count on internal teams to support you.

Cons

Direct managers need to learn the meaning of leadership. There's a challenge with representatives falling short of their targets, and the direct leaders are not providing effective support. Instead of offering guidance, they express frustration over the failure to meet quotas. No individual coaching is being provided. To be transparent, some of the current leaders were promoted from sales positions they excelled in. However, they excelled during a time when ZoomInfo was a sought-after new technology. Therefore, there appears to be a lack of thorough evaluation in appointing individuals to leadership positions.

Toxic Engineering Culture

Pros

- work is not hard or challenging (could be a con) - the office is nice with standard amenities for a tech company - equipment they provide is very good - most of the non-technical people are very pleasant to work with - IT Support is fast and reliable for a company this size

Cons

- almost everyone in engineering leadership is toxic - delivering features will always take priority over fixing tech debt. Example: as someone in technical management, I was told to tell the team NOT to write tests and just push code through to get features delivered faster - most people in engineering management are incompetent but they constantly put people down (probably due to their own insecurities). I’ve seen code they’ve contributed; it’s worse than many junior devs I’ve worked with in my career - as you’d expect, unlimited PTO is not really unlimited even though it’s “encouraged”. Every time I’ve taken PTO, I’d be criticized for letting my team fail X goal. - not a total surprise but every single person who has defied leadership in one way or another has been a part of one of the (so far) 3 layoffs (in all departments) - people on H1B’s are definitely treated harshly compared to others. Not necessarily a race or discrimination thing, but a lot of them live/work in fear for their jobs and it seems like it’s instilled by management - a lot of people in management are self-serving; it feels like I’m working with managers who work in retail. They’re consistently having power trips and don’t care about who they management. It’s the worst I’ve seen and I’ve been in the industry for 14 years

Thank you for leaving us feedback about your experience working at ZI. I wanted to provide some clarity about the points raised in this review. Our Engineering management team is well-experienced. As a growing organization, many teams and team members are new to ZI, but we are collaborating with our global counterparts and senior leaders to ensure we are aligned with the global processes and practices fast. Some of the changes you had experienced are part of the growing pain, and every day we are learning how to make our processes better. And to be clear, in our roadmaps, we prioritize running the business, which is about KTLO, productivity, customer trust, and organic growth, ahead of changing the business. If you saw exceptions to this priority, please escalate to get them resolved. Our Flex Time Off Policy allows you to take personal time off when you need it, without a bank of hours, or accruals. You are required to request time off in Workday and get approval in advance from your manager. If you felt you got pressured not to take any time off, we always recommend escalating to your HRBP. Thanks again and wishing you all the best in your next career move.
