      Toxic management

      Pros

      Good employee benefits and generally lovely people across the business. Work life balance is generally good.

      Cons

      People aren't trusted to do their job. The senior leadership team are incredibly toxic and don't value their staff. No disciplinary action for hugely problematic behaviours. Low pay across certain teams. To me, it felt like men were favoured ahead of women regardless of skillset or ability - in my team and across the business. The commercial team treated their jobs as a joke/spending spree, even while their lower level colleagues faced redundancy. It turned into an impossible environment to work in. ZOO has the potential to be an amazing and thriving workplace, but it's a shame that this is ruined by a select few, who happen to have all the power and influence in the business. On the surface, the culture and influence seem great, but the actions of senior leaders don't back them up at all.

      Great, but such low pay

      Pros

      Overall great company culture, colleagues in the production department are fantastic. The work is really interesting and fun, and you learn a lot.

      Cons

      Very low pay for editors, with no outlook to go up by much considering the recent redundancies to cut costs. Board of directors still took huge bonuses at the start of the year though, and continued expanding the business overseas despite the uncertainty in the industry. Company morale overall doesn’t seem too good now.

We’re so glad to hear about your positive experiences during your time at ZOO as we continually work hard to provide a great company culture and working environments for our employees. Our FY23 was a record period of growth and financial performance during which we were able to pay bonuses to staff right across the business. However, what followed was a challenging time for the industry as a whole. This has had a significant impact on the company, leading to temporary (but prolonged) reduced levels of work which obviously and inevitably has adversely affected staff morale. We will continue to look at ways to increase morale across the business through this difficult time for our industry. We appreciate your feedback and will continue to review and work on our compensation packages for our employees.
