Some Hard Truths

Business Outlook

Pros

As others have said, you make your own schedule. I've also had great relations with management. They always value our input, even if they don't follow it. There is constant re-assessing of the job, the platform, and how we can do better. I also know we work for some very high-profile clients but we don't get to see who most of the time. In many ways, I'm grateful because there isn't pressure from management to "really do well with this one." It's an equal playing field for how we perform. It's not going to make you rich, but it'll help you pay the bills here and there. Very rarely is this someone's entire livelihood although it may be their main source of income.

Cons

It is a steep learning curve, and in the beginning, it will take a lot of effort for very little payout. The research questions vary widely in topics and subjects. Unlike before, we no longer have the option to choose what we work on and are randomly assigned questions which can be very scary at first. There are situations and set backs where you can't understand fully how to get better except by reading and learning from other researchers. After being here a year I find that most people who have a general knack for it tend to stick around in the long run.

Research fast and right, or don't get paid

Pros

Easy application; good pay if you can get it

Cons

Can't pick projects to your strengths; automatically assigned work that may or may not be findable. You can spend hours researching one topic, explain to the writer why you have them what you did and why you might not have been successful... And instead of sending it back to you to edit or add more sources, just flat out reject it and don't pay you for the time you spent. TERRIBLE POLICY.

Thanks for sharing your feedback. We've heard this from a few analysts so we're currently working on some changes that would allow analysts to make revisions if needed. I'd be happy to share more details! --> Drop me a line at research@askwonder.com

SCAM & FRAUD

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

You think they would pay their freelance researchers properly.

Cons

They have you do work, then say you forgot things too. Instead of being able to edit, they just do it themselves and not pay you for the majority of work that you have done. I've never saw such unprofessionalism in a business. What liars.

Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your experience on Wonder! We expect analysts to submit client-ready work every time, but we provide editing services as needed, where the analyst and the editor will share the pay on getting the research brief finished. If you feel that your work was sent to editing in error and was in fact client-ready, please let me know! I'd be happy to look into it. --> research@askwonder.com
