Most rewarding job I've had

Pros

You don't run into walls. If you see something that will be beneficial to do then you can go ahead and do it. You can find help when you need it as long as you ask. You can have meaningful conversations with anyone in the company and then turn it into actions. It's a lot of responsibility though, no one will give you a plan to follow step by step - you make your own way.

Cons

Sometime's there's too much choice of needed projects to tackle and it makes it hard to choose the one with most impact.

Pros

If you're someone that thrives on opportunity to be ambitious, try things and have some autonomy around how you and your team make decisions, TransferWise is perfect. It's fast paced, customer-centric and really pushes you to evolve yourself into someone that can make tough decisions as well as giving and receiving honest feedback. There are over 65 nationalities working at TransferWise, with people from all sorts of backgrounds, cultures and countries, which means that we're all passionate about the product we're building, and bring new perspectives to the table. There's a general understanding that people have lives outside of work - whether that be friendships, families, pets. Teams are supportive and flexible in that respect, with the trust that the impact will be made. It's up to individuals to be responsible for that.

Cons

If you're used to being told what to do and can't work through decisions yourself - you'll struggle. Progression isn't 'linear' in the sense that - you do this thing, jump through this hoop, you'll get a promotion. For me that's actually a pro as you're incentivised to learn and broaden your skillset for real purpose rather than for an artificial goal. However we are still in the point of our company life where we are relatively unstructured about people's development and need to spend more time on this to support people during TransferWise and for life after.

Freedom and make an impact

Pros

Company gives complete trust in you and your team to solve problems that you feel are necessary to work on. You choose what's important and what's mentally stimulating enough to give time and attention to. Also a huge effort to support each other's goals when the importance is illustrated.

Cons

The amount of freedom can lead to a lack of productivity if not used correctly. An overlapping of projects with other teams can also cause some obstacles if not communicating well enough with the rest of the company.
