Pros

Great snacks, pay is good

Cons

Working at Wise is the equivalent of speaking to a grown-up for a few minutes before you realise it’s actually just 3 (mean) labradors in a trench coat. Brilliant brand and marketing that masks an internal culture of total disorganisation and toxicity. In your time at Wise you will hear many times that working there is ‘not like working anywhere else’, but as far as I could tell this was a cleaner way of saying, ‘we have no intention of taking responsibility for how awful it can feel to work here, and none of the self-awareness required to change’. The old guard on staff have picked up some very bad behaviours over the years. If you are amidst interviewing, I might find a way to figure out how long your leadership has been working at Wise. If it’s over 2-years, you might dig a little on the culture and ethos of the people running your potential future team. Many folks in leadership have very limited experience working elsewhere in the tech industry, and it significantly clouds what they consider normal or good. Enter at your own risk, and for those of you at big tech firms thinking of switching - I may reconsider if you are leaving any money on the table.

Pros

Free snacks and food. Annual trips abroad to Estonia.

Cons

Inexperienced tech leads who were promoted only on the basis of tenure at the company. Cross team collaboration was incredibly difficult. "Autonomous" teams were only interested in their vertical and wouldn't give you the time of day. Senior product managers having no idea about the basics of agile methodologies Product engineering role was incredibly stressful - you're expected to do everything an engineer does along with everything a product manager does whilst PMs do nothing. Leadership were terrible - it felt like a cult most of the time with everybody saying how great the CEO was.

Pros

Interesting job, lots of things to learn. Good perks in terms of working remotely. Company tries hard to give office perks (food, comfortable offices).

Cons

Most of the vacations are assigned by the leadership, quite inconvenient to plan personal life around it. Very low salaries considering the amount of work, knowledge and accuracy required and expected for the role. The salary reviews are near to non-existent. After a year of hard working and meeting metrics on a regular basis, they might give you a 75 euro gross increase, which feels quite humiliating when twice a year they organise events globally which budget must cross the million euros. It builds up on the previous comment that they make you feel you are easily replaceable. Management is fairly unskilled. It seems their goal is almost exclusively based on their metrics, caring very little for their employees. It feels that we are easily replaceable and clear trust issues towards the staff they hire, which builds an uncomfortable working atmosphere.

Hello and many thanks for taking the time to share your feedback, we really appreciate it. We're glad to hear that you enjoy the employee offerings at Wise and the chance to learn new things. It's disappointing to hear though that you've not been having a good experience at Wise, particularly when it comes to team management. At Wise, we believe in the importance of rest and encourage all Wisers to take advantage of their vacation days to rest and recuperate. As a global company, our priority is to ensure that our customers receive timely support. To manage this, we arrange shift schedules two months in advance to help our team know when they’ll be working. If vacation requests are made within that time period, we’re doing our best to accommodate them but we may not always be able to fulfil every request. In terms of pay, we run annual reviews to ensure that our salaries are in line with local market benchmarks, as well as rewarding Wisers for their performance. There are several factors that go into determine pay increases, so it's best to discuss this with your Lead to understand how these decisions are made in your team. To make sure our Leads have the right tools to manage teams, we offer a range of development opportunities, including a structured leadership framework, leadership training and development for newly hired and promoted leads, and company-wide coaching and mentoring programs. Our leadership approach focuses on empowering leaders to support their teams, fostering innovation, and adapting to change, with a strong emphasis on self-reflection and continuous improvement. On all of these things, we're always keen to receive feedback and to understand more about anything that's not quite working as you'd expect it to. If you'd feel comfortable sharing more about your experiences, we'd encourage you to either speak directly to your Lead, or contact your local People Advisor to discuss these concerns further. Nicola
