Hello. Thanks for letting us know you are pleased with your benefits and working hours – we strive to ensure our pay and benefits remain market competitive so it is good to see you experienced this during your time with us. In response to your other comments, we regularly survey employees on all aspects of life at Weir, including Communication, Autonomy & Management Support for example, and we continue to work to make improvements in these areas, for example to ensure employees are given enough freedom to decide how to do their work, that they have the right level of support from their leaders and that they’re kept informed and up to date on all aspects of life at Weir relevant to them and their role.

Pros

Workmates and direct managers were really good

Cons

Where to start..... Well below average wages. Shocking safety culture. No interest in developing employees. An upper management that are beyond clueless, never seen anything like it.

Hello – Thank you for leaving a review of your time at Weir. We strive to ‘Think Safety First’ at all times and we recognise and deal effectively with risk through the capability of our people, clear policies and practices and an effective SHE management system. This is enabling us to become an ever safer place to work and in fact we are among the safest companies in our sector. We are fully committed to achieving zero harm and this year launched our Zero Harm Behaviours to help us focus action as we continue our drive to achieving a first-class safety culture. We were therefore concerned to read about your views on safety culture during your time with us, and if you witnessed or experienced anything you’d like to share, I would encourage you to get in touch with me in the first instance at innis.scott@mail.weir and I can take your concerns anonymously to the relevant business leaders for further investigation. In response to your comments on salary, we do regularly undertake market assessments for our roles to ensure our reward and benefits packages remain competitive and we also remain highly committed to creating a culture of inclusion where everyone can do the best work of their lives. We do this, for example, by focusing on what people need in order to achieve fair outcomes for all and that includes access to training and development, career pathways and regular, open feedback. Thank you again for sharing your views and please do consider getting in touch with me with further insight on your experience of our safety culture.

Great place to work but lower than market salaries

Pros

Managers really care about you. Flexible hours. Unlimited sick days. Health benefits. RRSP contributions. Great culture and values.

Cons

Lower-than-average salaries. Location is not Downtown Montreal. Diversity (women and people of colour) lacking but more of a STEM issue than specific to this company.

Thanks for taking the time to share your review. It’s great to see you are experiencing a positive culture and working environment and strong support from your leader, as well as a strong wider benefits package. In response to your comments on salary, we do regularly undertake market assessments for our roles to ensure our reward and benefits packages remain competitive. With regards to your comments on diversity, we agree that we have some way to go. Indeed from a gender perspective (as that is where we have the most robust and globally consistent data), our overall global workforce is predominantly male, accounting for ~83% of our total employee population. Whilst we are encouraged by recent progress made with female senior hires, we recognise we need to further increase the focus on volume recruitment of females across the entirety of our workforce. We continue to drive our Inclusion, Diversity & Equity Strategy, enabling a culture where our employees feel they belong, feel heard and respected. We are empowering our leaders to build an inclusive culture to drive innovation and growth which includes Gender KPIs. We also have Affinity Groups which cover currently our Women and our LGBTQ+ population and we hope to help employees create further affinity groups for other aspects of diversity. During 2022 we also piloted a reverse mentoring programme and we continue to support initiatives around the globe that address some of the barriers that prevent underrepresented young people from pursuing STEM careers, as you referenced in your review.
