Keep Away

Pros

You can be exposed to good projects

Cons

You're just a number to this company, stay away. There's a reason this company has a much higher rate of employees leaving compared to the competitors. WSP has a very cooperate culture that is at odds with the local offices and project requirements. Only the end-of-month metrics matter. There is a big disconnect between the self-promoting marketing blurb and reality. Operations are outdated, the experienced people are all leaving and the workforce is unhappy. Stay away.

Corporate Mismanagement

Business Outlook

Pros

None (unless you happen to be lucky enough to have good colleagues that also happen to be working there).

Cons

The corporate machine is a bloated, uninformed, uneducated body of people managing from afar, in Quebec, consistent with Quebec corporate practices of putting dollars first, quality and people second and third. You have 5 to 7 levels of "management" above you, all amazingly unqualified to actually manage technical staff, as they either (a) did minimal actual practice themselves, or (b) don't even have university degrees in their subject areas (the old adage of "those who can't do, teach... and those who can't teach, administrate" fully applies here). The philosophy of corporate is to increase company share value at ALL costs, which translates into: 1) gobbling up small companies, 2) increasing chargeability targets to ludicrously unobtainable long-term targets, then 3) giving staff "temporary" layoffs until they quit, and the cycle repeats. What results is a loss of the best, most talented staff, rock-bottom morale, and work quality that is absolutely sub-par for engineering/science.

Just another number

Pros

Flex time. Direct supervisors are spread too thin to ever micro manage. On the surface they provide a shiney facade with heavy focus on diversity, inclusion, community, safety, awareness - all the up-to-date issues. (Ironically falls short to the actuality which is total disorganization and chaos)

Cons

The reorganization during Covid was challenging enough but the company then dismantled many service departments and outsourced to India as part of its "global initiative". Constant change to project delivery and operations with poor communication and lack of leadership. It's obvious the company only cares about it's investment thru acquiring as many firms as possible. Benefits package are lacking and costly. No OT compensation but job requirements cannot be completed in a standard 40 hour week. Constant staff turnover throughout - those who stay are burnt out and cannot affect real change. You will be over worked and hardly acknowledged. When you leave no one notices.
