Pros

Benefits, ok salary, work/life balance, work from home, large interesting projects.

Cons

Customers hate us. Over the last few years Verizon has been outsourcing to unqualifed foreign workers who don't care about the company or customers. I've personally seen tens of millions of dollars worth of customer business run for the hills after dealing with their Phillipines employees. Now with the Infosys deal Verizon is looking to send its Professional Services / Enterprise Solutions remote engineering to India and replace is rank and file US based employes with as many short term H1B visa contractors as it can on a per project basis. Considering they just hired a new Indian to be Head of Verizon Enterprise Consulting & Professional Services (Arun Kundu) the writing is on the wall. With the recent buyout offer being presented I am going to take it. Everyone knows whats coming next and that is a RIF (reduction in force) after the buyout offer expires with a really bad seperation package (if any). There are too many other companies out there hiring so wasting your time at Verizon is no longer a good career move.

Pros

For someone like myself who has moved around the company and worked in a variety of positions and departments, the compensation is good. LIke many companies, there are good managers and there are poor managers. You hope you're lucky enough to spend some time with a good manager.

Cons

I'm not sure of our direction at this point. We keep laying off good people and now there is a lucrative retirement package, (3 weeks for every year, max 60 weeks) and I feel as if I'm being forced out. Take the package and go start over with another company, after 25 year. Or, stay, and try to work in the aftermath of a 20-30% employment reduction. We are super busy from start to end of shift, how will we survive with this kind of mass exodus
