Pros

Benefits, ok salary, work/life balance, work from home, large interesting projects.

Cons

Customers hate us. Over the last few years Verizon has been outsourcing to unqualifed foreign workers who don't care about the company or customers. I've personally seen tens of millions of dollars worth of customer business run for the hills after dealing with their Phillipines employees. Now with the Infosys deal Verizon is looking to send its Professional Services / Enterprise Solutions remote engineering to India and replace is rank and file US based employes with as many short term H1B visa contractors as it can on a per project basis. Considering they just hired a new Indian to be Head of Verizon Enterprise Consulting & Professional Services (Arun Kundu) the writing is on the wall. With the recent buyout offer being presented I am going to take it. Everyone knows whats coming next and that is a RIF (reduction in force) after the buyout offer expires with a really bad seperation package (if any). There are too many other companies out there hiring so wasting your time at Verizon is no longer a good career move.

Pros

Compensation is competitive but you will work very hard for it. Culture is excellent and exhibited and practiced from the top down. Benefits are excellent and cost reasonable. 401k match and profit sharing. Lots of training and professional development opportunities. Can advance if you're willing to relocate.

Cons

Company is trying to transform into what it wants to be beyond a wireless carrier (cloud?, security?, telematics?, wholesaler?, etc) and is struggling with a vision, resources, and org structure to make it a reality. Several re-organizations over last few years so job security has frequently been a question. Often delayed response to competitors caused by management's concern that acting would result in not meeting Wall Street expectations. Not the "happiest" place to work because no result is ever good enough and successes aren't celebrated because the focus is always on the next weekly/monthly/quarterly goal.
