Pros

Vail Resorts is an innovative, quickly growing company; however its high attrition rate is linked to employee dissatisfaction. Vail does offe great benefits including access to its Rock Resorts and Mountains!

Cons

Vail pays its employees low wages, and claims to promote from within. Yet they lack the developmental support to help their employees climb the corporate ladder.

We appreciate your candid feedback. We agree that one of our largest perks is the access we are granted to all of our resorts in Colorado, California, Utah, Minnesota, Michigan, Wyoming and Jamaica, as well as the flexible time off to truly immerse ourselves in the resorts. We also recognize that compensation and development have been key drivers in the past few years, when we speak to retention, during our leadership optimization projects. We have some great programs to help develop our employees and each year a new focus has been launched to continue to align our skills with our company’s culture. We acknowledge that we still have work to do and we are encouraged to constantly reassess programs that result in higher engagement and retention.

Pros

Free ski pass Ride breaks Casual dress/code

Cons

Lack of communication Lack of concern for employees ( I got the feeling they think everyone is disposable) Old inefficient computers/software ( I would have computer crash 5-20 times a day... Everyday) High turnover rate Low Pay (I could have gotten paid more anywhere in the next two towns) No room to advance in company unless you are well like I felt like I was in a frat house Lack of culture (they preach an experience of a lifetime I didn't see it that way at all for customers or employees) Management is inconsistent, doesn't believe in leading by example and doesn't make expectations clear.

Thank you for sharing your candid feedback, we know that we can learn a lot from seeing both the pros and cons from your experience. We agree that the ski pass and the chance to play in the mountains on a consistent basis is one perk that drove many of us to come here. We also understand that we do have challenges being a large organization ensuring that all of our employees are having a consistent experience and really getting the most out of his/her time here. Every year as we go through the feedback from former and current employees we try to focus on a few action items to make sure that we continue to grow in the right direction. Some of the programs that have come out of our employee surveys, exit interview results and other conversations has been the creation of leadership development classes for every level, with this upcoming year’s focus being on mid-level management, capital money spent on housing improvements, employee team building activities, the EpicService program and a variety of others. We hope that you continue to enjoy our resorts!

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with our company on Glassdoor. We do love that our culture at our headquarters is one of a casual atmosphere, where there is a deep sense of community among the staff. Some of the feedback that we receive during our employee engagement survey and during staff meetings is that they we truly enjoy working with one another and the shared similar passions for the outdoors and innovation really make it fun to be here. It is also due to that feedback that we receive during the enterprise-wide employee engagement survey that our talent management team has launched a new leadership development class every year. Our 8 module long leadership essentials class for new managers or those interested in becoming a new manager has been going strong for a little over a year and we have received great feedback. We also launched our Camps 1-4 for seasoned leadership to continue to drive his/her potential to collaborate and challenge their teams. We are excited to see what this does to develop our managers from the ground up and lead great people.
