Great college job - not career

Pros

- LOVED THE PEOPLE: everyone I worked with (even the managers) were totally awesome, and some of the best people I have worked with. - Flexible with schedule (I was in college while working here, and management was always willing to work around my schedule) - Free ski pass

Cons

LOW PAY: getting a free ski pass is awesome, but on the other hand unable to afford gas to drive up to the mountains on my time off isn't quite as awesome . NO TRAINING: I was hired during the largest sale of the year and was thrown into the job without any training. HORRIBLE COMMUNICATION: If you're going to give employees a free pass it would be nice to know that there ARE BLACKOUT DATES for employees, so they don't drive up to the mountains just to be told they have to buy a full price ticket. Not all employees live right on the mountain, some have to drive 2 hours, please be considerate and let your employees know when there are blackout dates. COMPUTERS & PHONES SUCK: Phones and computers would crash all of the time. I would have to start every phone conversation with a customer saying "Our phones are acting up today, if you get disconnected I will call you back". Except I would say this every single day. OPPORTUNITY FOR GROWTH: 3 words: There is none. Upper management didn't listen or trust store management on who should grow in the company.

Easy to work with. Lots of perks to the mountain and all Vail Resorts. Swag, etc.

Cons

Pretty bureaucratic. Very corporate and a little impersonal.

Thanks for the feedback! One common theme we hear from current and former employees is that they love the teams that they work with. There’s also a great appreciation for the different discounts we get on the mountain, in our retail stores and our F&B locations. We acknowledge that it can be hard to find a balance of being a large company and still have a small resort feel when it comes to decisions that are being made. The leadership team has made steps to better the communication and the feedback process to include employees from every level. We have been eliciting ways we can improve for the past few seasons using the employee engagement survey, exit interviews and employee discussions. From those forums we have already seen new trainings created and a push to develop employees as well as teaching employees how they can own their own development. From this we are very optimistic that we will see an increase in internal hires and promotions so we can retain our great talent season over season. Thank you again for taking the time to leave your feedback!

Pros

Ski pass; company discounts for friends and family; 4 free day passes, and 16 $55 lift passes; National Park Pass; Employee housing; benefits including health insurance, eye, and dental (for employees with over 700 work hours); pro-deals for many of the companies vendors; J1 & H2B workers; tourists from a wide variety of Nations;

Cons

low pay, limited company locations, besides 1 location in Australia (coming later in 2015) there are no VR locations outside of the USA, not a very culturally or ethnically diverse company

Thank you for your feedback. It’s great to see that you are getting as much out of the free employee pass, four free tickets for friends and 16 discounted tickets as we do. We are also excited that in many of our locations we have been able to offer subsidized employee housing to help offset the cost of living in a resort town for our seasonal staff. The housing program is something that we are continually reviewing to make sure that we can staff our mountains. We too are also excited for our first international acquisition and to see what that new experience can take us and hopefully help diversify our work staff. Thank you again for a great season and all the work that went into it!
