Great college job - not career

Pros

- LOVED THE PEOPLE: everyone I worked with (even the managers) were totally awesome, and some of the best people I have worked with. - Flexible with schedule (I was in college while working here, and management was always willing to work around my schedule) - Free ski pass

Cons

LOW PAY: getting a free ski pass is awesome, but on the other hand unable to afford gas to drive up to the mountains on my time off isn't quite as awesome . NO TRAINING: I was hired during the largest sale of the year and was thrown into the job without any training. HORRIBLE COMMUNICATION: If you're going to give employees a free pass it would be nice to know that there ARE BLACKOUT DATES for employees, so they don't drive up to the mountains just to be told they have to buy a full price ticket. Not all employees live right on the mountain, some have to drive 2 hours, please be considerate and let your employees know when there are blackout dates. COMPUTERS & PHONES SUCK: Phones and computers would crash all of the time. I would have to start every phone conversation with a customer saying "Our phones are acting up today, if you get disconnected I will call you back". Except I would say this every single day. OPPORTUNITY FOR GROWTH: 3 words: There is none. Upper management didn't listen or trust store management on who should grow in the company.

Pros

Working for Vail Resorts provides a unique opportunity where your life can be better then most people's vacations. Creating a dream vacation for someone else can be very rewarding.

Cons

Unless you are in management or have been with the company for a few years, the salary makes it tough to live in the environment you are working in. Do not expect to share the same level of perks as the people you are catering to.

Vail Resorts Response

Thank you for your positive review! We also love that our work choice allows us to live and spend in destinations that many people spend a lot of time, money and energy traveling to, and then only getting to spend a small amount of time in, while we get to spend months or years in these amazing areas. Thank you for your effort on creating an Experience of a Lifetime for our guests, it is rewarding making someone’s dream vacation happen and can difficult to achieve. We do recognize that compensation is something that requires continuous review, we have also found that many employees have come for a season, and have ended up staying for a career. They’ve been able to grow professionally and financially over time, fueling their passion throughout. Perhaps this is something you could look into! If you need help finding the right next step for you, feel free to email us at recruiting@vailresorts.com.
