Decent job, decent pay, but not one for the easily bored or easily frustrated.
Pros
The pay is good and the atmosphere can be pretty relaxed (at the Remote Encoding Centers, at least, you can listen to your MP3 the whole night and you get a 5 or 10 minute break each hour, not including lunch). Co-workers tend to be friendly, or at least polite. Feedback is easy to get, and very honest. Supervisors tend to be helpful, and are ready to answer questions. If they don't know the answer, they'll find out for you or direct you where to ask. It isn't difficult to get time off, but there are a lot of rules about how and when. It's best to ask in advance. There are many different shifts available, so it shouldn't be hard to fit any schedule.
Cons
It's monotonous work, so it can cause muscle soreness. Sometimes the rules change for no obvious reason, but they do a good job of keeping you notified of these changes. T.E.'s low on the pecking order get the shaft on holidays, but after a year or two of working there you ought to be high enough on the list to get the days off. Christmas season is a drag, with two or more weeks on a special holiday schedule where you may be held up to 12 hours (usually you stay 8-10 hours, not including lunch). They way it is decided who gets to move from being a T.E. to being a career (with better pay and benefits) makes no sense, so be warned.
