Pros

The United States Postal Service is one of the most secure jobs to have. There are no layoffs and the pay and benefits are excellent. Opportunity for advancement is available to all that wish to apply themselves and be able to put in some hard work. Where I work there is open communication from Senior management through the direct reports. Teamwork is tantamount in my district and is fostered.

Cons

Lower pay scale than private industry, Unions and managements confrontational behavior is counter productive. Currently the lack of experience on the front lines (delivery units) is a concern. In certain Areas there is the appearance of cronyism.

Pros

Depending on where you live, the pay & benefits are much better than most other companies. Also, the vacation time and sick leave are very generous and there is a lot of potential for advancement for those who have the drive.

Cons

The odd hours (early mornings or overnights depending on your job), and the days off (we work Saturdays and some even work on Sundays).

Pros

The best reasons to work for the US Postal Service are because in these days and times this organization provides job security, room for professional growth and advancement, and the capability to relocate anywhere in the country.

Cons

Some of the downsides of working at the US Postal Service that I have experienced is a lot of promotions take place on a who you know basis, or on how well you may be persuaded to do the bidding of others. Don't get me wrong if your talented you can excel and receive promotions but sometimes you may have to fight for proper treatment.
