Some days are better than others (CCA)

Pros

Depending on your office, you can make regular really quick. I am the top CCA there and there are going to be two vacant routes in July. According to my post master and supervisor, I will definitely be regular within a couple weeks after. I started in November so if this was actually the case, i would become regular in 8 months. anyways, the job is not as people hype it up to be. Yes you can get better paying jobs doing easier work but it most likely won't be as fun. Since I have started I never had one of those days where you say "I don't want to work today". I actually enjoy it, Time goes by within the blink of an eye. If you are a hard worker and love to work as many hours as possible, you will love this job. I Generally work 50-55 hours a week and they are not stingy with overtime like most companies. The good thing about working more hours with the post office is than anything over 8 hours is time and a half and anything over 10 hours in a day is double pay. During the christmas season is when you will see a ridiculous amount of overtime along with summer time (Prime Time). Tips are also good in christmas, you get a lot of respect from everybody, you get to enjoy them nice spring and summer days, Thrift Savings/Roth, good benefits, what else do you need?

Cons

well unfortunately there are more cons than pros. Like I stated earlier, you get to enjoy the weather; this also backfires on you as well depending where your from. I am from upstate NY and winters are so rough here. DOGS ARE ANOTHER CON, I have been chased and I even sprayed a dog because they just naturally hate mail man. Most CCA's hate the pressure from their post master and supervisor about time and being rushed. Though I have never been asked about time they could be right. It probably just depends on your office. Just stay moving and do your best. another con that makes this position eh is time off. It is very hard to get time off within your first year. Though I have never tried, most CCA's I know have hard a time getting time off from work. You will most likely work 7:30-4:30 everyday (at least) so getting to a bank or your kids activities will be very difficult.

Pros

Not back breaking, and they keep you pretty busy so the time flys by pretty fast. If you like overtime or need to make some decent money out the gate this is the place to be.

Cons

Not many but they're a little wishy washy with the schedule at times because they can change it and blame you for not checking it. My only other complaint is that they call overtime literally at the last minute

Pros

When initially applying to work for the post office I had a slightly romanticized version of what a mail carrier actually does in my mind. After the three months it took to even get started with my training, that vision slowly began to change. All throughout my interview process it was repeatedly stated that this was a HIGH STRESS job and that I would be pushed...a lot. I have no aversion to hard work and welcome it when I have strong guidance and know what's expected of me. All that being said...the only pro that I can think of is the pay, and that is begrudgingly. While $15.68 an hour is good, I don't feel that it adequately compensates for all the cons. If you can make it to regular (1-2 years) the list might get longer, but I wouldn't know at this point.

Cons

I am shocked at the poor management I have witnessed while only being on the job for a month. The only thing management cares about is numbers...not the people or the customers, but meeting (sometimes arbitrary) deadlines and keeping costs down. While I understand that this is a business, there are better ways to increase profits than by riding your employees into the ground and constantly infringing on union contracts that cause you to pay out more money in grievances than if you could just run things with some common sense to begin with. Another thing...if you hire someone as a full time employee on a year contract it would be nice to actually work them full time. Maybe I'm not fast enough and they're trying to get me to quit, but I go in with a smile and work hard every day they call me in and I've only worked about 15 days in the last month. I haven't even done a split (worked part of a mail route) yet, I've only been delivering parcels. How am I supposed to get better and faster at this job if they aren't even giving me a chance? - poor management and communication - unpredictable schedule and hours - no benefits - constant issues between employees and management requiring union action - pressure to work in unsafe manner/environment (using a 2 ton to deliver box to box on a busy two lane street?!) - lack of respect for new employees (being told to come in at a certain time and then repeatedly sent home with no work)
