Pros

Great team if you're lucky, most people are really nice Opportinuties to volunteer as an Ambassador is an interesting insight to the daily jobs of the frontline staff Work life balance is excelent Flexible working hours

Cons

Senior managers do not care how hard you work. You are just a number to them and they would happily end your contract to reduce head count even if you work hard. No options after apprenticeships, management refuse to comment. As an apprentice, you're constantly told ''you get out what you put in''; now that the time is nearly up, my hard work, niche knowledge and passion for transport will become useless, even if your line manager wants to keep you on, it's pretty much hopeless fighting senior management. On the other hand, there are bullies who seem to be able to do nothing all day and be very comfortable in their jobs.

Pros

Free London travel, discounted season tickets and defined benefit pension

Cons

Ineffective management and leadership. Promotions are based on who you know, not on performance, experience or qualifications. Because of the lack of capable leadership and strategic planning there is huge amount of resource wastage where projects/activities across directorates (even within directorate) do not complement each other which means some projects/activities are cancelled well into delivery and incurred expenditure. There is also a reorganisation every 2 years on average which seem to fail its target every time.

Pros

Decent pay package, very good employee support with access to health care in house. Generous holiday allowance and free travel.

Cons

Shift work is a killer, lack of public holidays, no such thing as a weekend. Not socially viable. Top level management is useless. No care or feedback is ever taken on board. For those who like to leave their minds at home. No natural career progression; no matter how hard you work.
