Do not work here!

Pros

Good discount. Clean working environment.

Cons

Very union unfriendly. New hires are shown a brainwashing video about unions in orientation. I've never been in a union but can think for myself. Restocking is rushed, with no consideration of employee health and safety. Expected to spend long periods of time on floor on knees unwrapping, rush up and down tall ladders, etc.

Pros

The discount is great and you gain a lot of work experience. They are also flexible in taking time- off as long as is requested 3 weeks prior and is not around the elfa sale.

Cons

They work you like a dog! You have to work there for 3 years to get a paid vacation and no paid sick time. No full time opportunities. The most phony and unpleasant people I have ever encountered. They might pay you 3$ more than other retail jobs, but they expect you to kill yourself working and they only give you about 12-18 hours a week. Mandatory store meetings where you are surrounded by a cult environment of brown nose activity.

Not worth it

Pros

The starting pay is good for retail. And the discount is great(you won't get enough hours to buy anything though and it's all overpriced anyway). They do hire great part time people.

Cons

So many it's hard to know where to begin! You're hours will be cut, not just a few hours here and there but you will literally have weeks where you are scheduled for 3.5 hours for an entire week. And new people will be hired. Not just one new person, a group of new hires. All with the same availability as you and 15 other employees. The management will speak to you like you're a child. Very condescending and make you feel like an idiot, for no reason whatsoever. If you aren't a suck up you won't do well here. There's no confidentiality. If you call out and give a reason the management will let the store know why. You can't talk to fellow employees about anything except the container store. The management team sits in back and watches the store on the tv's and if they see you stop to say hi to someone they're right on you, even if there isn't a single customer in the building and even if you are talking while working. If you quit, you are not allowed to tell anyone you are leaving until after your last day (strange). They micromanage sooooo much!! They rave about training and empowerment but it's not true. They will make you role play in front of the store and then pick you apart in front if everyone. Breaks? Just your mandatory lunch. If you work 7 hours you will get a 30 min unpaid lunch. No 10 or 15 min break. Most places you would get a 30 unpaid and paid 15min for those hours, especially being on your feet all day. They rave about training. But all it is is brainwashing employees to sell, sell in the way they want you to. You can't go up to a customer and ask "can I help you". They want you to say "omg I love your purse! Do you have a lot of purses?! Do you need a shelf or closet for your purses? Here let me add this stuff to your cart that I KNOW you need!" People there want to get to know one another but are not allowed to. It's sad really bc the people they hire truly are great people, smart, educated and hard working people.
