Pros

One of the things that drew me to The Container Store was that it offered such a great benefit package. They offer health insurance with no minimum hours which is a huge draw, as other stores, such as Starbucks requires that you work at least 20 hours a week. They also pay more than most retailers, however, you realize that you are working very hard for that money, and I think in the end the money isn't really worth it. They also have a relaxed dress code, which can draw in people, employees get to wear jeans and store t-shirts.

Cons

Container Store claims in their hiring process that they will work around your schedule, but please don't take this at face value, as you will be scheduled on days when you say you cannot work. And they do their schedules 3 weeks in advance, so if you need any kind of flexiblity with your schedule, you can pretty much kiss it goodbye. Also, they make it very difficult for you to switch shifts with other employees, claiming that it's just too much work for the management. However, I don't understand if you go to them and say "Jane is picking up my shift on Thursday from 5-10 pm" why that is such a huge problem.

Pros

There used to be many... I took so much pride in my career, working as a team, working hard for reviews and raises, opportunities existed for people who worked hard and helped those around them succeed. That culture is dead as of the last several months. I've never seen a faster turn around.

Cons

Salary freeze isn't the worst of it. The ones who can fake support and woo hoo the loudest are promoted so that they can get everyone to see how much fun it is to work here. We are scolded into going out to recruit new employees. we'll find new employees to work for less than seasoned employees. If the tenured staff doesn't like the changes they can leave. Everything is changing and it is on the backs of their once valued employees. We all need to give more while we are being given less and less. Holidays are slowly being taken away. Weekends are slowly being required, Balance and family are not important and as gas prices increase and all other goods get higher and higher including the TCS products which are sometimes doubling in price, we are not given even a cost of living increase. I see the money that our customers spend daily at my urging...someone is making money...?

Pros

Open communication and incredibly strong support for the individual employee.

Cons

Some customers and some employees remembering The Container Store from 25 years ago and may not be willing to watch a company grow and change. Managed growth is a great thing if people are willing to learn and explore. The Container Store is doing that...I hope more people can be open to what the company is trying to achieve in a positive manner.
